Ms works is free, I forgot to say that I wanted to play Call of Duty 4. Dell doesn't offer an option for a nvidia graphics card for the xps 210, the computer I want to buy.

HD2400 SUCKS for gaming. Get HD2600 at least. Preferably HD 3850/3870.

Games are GPU dependant, meaning that if you have SUPER CPU, and SUPER RAM, with SUPER motherboard and HDD, but a poor GPU, the game will run with POOR FPS. If you have every decent part, the FPS will be decent.
It is all about GPU mainly. (except few CPU dependant engines, like Source engine. For example: HL2, Garry's mod, CS:S, DoD:S.)

What if you buy the part seperately and build your own computer? It isn't that hard, there's instructions with every part. Or then get another machine from another dealer. If you want gamin machines, then stick to Falcon NW, Alienware etc.

Oh, CoD4 will barely run with minimum graphics settings with HD2400. :|

About the same price as Intel with a true quad connection!!

Are x86 processors being phased out?

What resolution are you talking about?
My geforce 7600GS can max it at 1024x768. I have no clue about the ATi cards but I think his is much newer than mine.

I'm going to say this again, I don't know how to build computers, I know how to choose parts. I hear Vista sucks, FLAB even said so. It's very hard to find a computer with XP and good graphics card and ram and everything. Anyone wanna help me with that? My budget is $1400.

I'm going to say this again, I don't know how to build computers
You should if you want to have a good computer, even I did that when I was around 10 years old, so why couldn't you do it?

I hear Vista sucks, FLAB even said so.
FLAB thinks everything related to M$ sucks so you better not listen to him. :P If you want to use full potential of your graphics card, then you have to get Vista.

And about your keyboard and mouse, if you really want to play games with it then you should get some better keyboard and mouse. I have a Logitech MX518, and its a low budget gaming mouse, I would recommend it.

Well anyway, if I was going to buy a new computer, I would put more money on things like, mouse, keyboard, table where you put it, chair, headset, speakers and monitor(s). They will last longer than your hardware since hardware gets outdated pretty soon.

Yes I do think everything MS sucks, but that doesn't mean that my opinion of one MS product relative to another is invalid.  I have tested Vista extensively for my job and can say that XP is 1000x better.  Yes I hate XP too, but this is a relative statement and my bias has nothing to do with this.

Yeah, well I am not planning to change to Vista, since the only good thing I see on it is the support for DX10, and I'm running on pretty old hardware. If I didn't play any games I'd propably be using Linux.

Though if he talks about hardware then you'd better be listening to him.

What makes you think so? I (just noticed I have never even seen anyone using Vista, neither using it myself) think that the difference between XP and ME is smaller than with XP and Vista, since Vista has got a lot of new ways of handling things, AFAIK. So if you don't like the ways Vista uses, then you could say XP is better. :o

Windows ME is not that horrible. I am using it right now.

Honestly it hasn't bluescreened since I got this laptop (free as in beer) and only once got an error message.

Talk to people who haven't upgraded their computers in years, give them good advice, guide them through the process of getting a new computer/upgrading, and set everything up.

Ding! new old computer!

I'm starting to forget about the first computer. I found this computer on walmart.com for $629, with 2gb ram, vista premium,19" monitor, dual core anthlon processor. It didn't say anything about the gpu. I was thinking of buying a graphics card, but I don't know what graphics card is compatible with this computer. How do I tell?

ask walmart for some real specs. 99.9% chance it is a PCIE, since everything is PCIE nowadays.

Get an invidia from newegg.com go for the top of your pricerange.

You would still get a better deal making it yourself.

Omfg, what are you talking about? HD2400 is equal to smthing like GeForce 8400M. My friend has a laptop with 8400M + AMD Turion 64 x2 tl-58 (1.9GHz) and he runs cod 800x600 on 50 fps. And this computer has Core 2 duo and thats way better than AMD Turion tl-58. And desktop graphic cards are much better than the laptop cards. My another friend has a 7600GS and he runs cod4 @ 800x600 @ 90 fps

Get the recommended requirements of COD4 then just go ahead and build a pc off of that.
