Metroid, Anyone?
« on: December 16, 2007, 03:39:13 pm »
I've always been sorta suprised that no one had bothered making a Metroid mod, so some time ago I started on one.  I abandoned the project though, due to numerous factors.  I still have the work I did do, though, which is mainly weapon graphics:

As you can see, I've made graphics for all but a couple secondaries.  Their soldat-held counterparts are also made (which, while rather large, would be difficult to distinguish from each other if they were any smaller), along with their firing graphics.  They are all actual weapons from the Metroid games (the Galvanic Accelorator cannon and Forearm Scythe being Space Pirate weapons), and are made to appear as much like their cannonical counterparts as possible, with the exception of the Spazer and Hyper beams (which, being only from the 2D games, I had no references for).  The LAW I planned on making the Charge Beam instead of the Missile Launcher because I was saving that for the Rambo Bow, which would fire Missiles and Super Missiles.  I also made graphics for Morph Ball Bombs and Power Bombs.  I had also planned on making the turret into the Space Pirate's Vigilance Class Turret from Metroid Prime II.

Oh, and I need to edit the Spazer to make it yellow :P

I had tried making some gosteks, but they didn't turn out terribly great.  The stabbing animation was especially odd.

Anyway, if there's enough interest, I may just try starting up on this thing again.  Thing is, I'd also probably need some help--I'm not sure how good an interface I could make, and the biggest problem is getting my hands on the sound effects, which I can't find anywhere.

Anyway, I figured I'd just throw this out there.

Great concept! in my opinion, the "galvanic accelerator" should be a simple long beam.
I haven't played primes, so I don't know what most of them are.

Also, there should be the missiles fit in somehow, as they are, in every game, the standby of her arsenal. Every game.

I am interested in seeing it and playing it for myself, as I am a huge metroid fan.
Edit: just read about the rambo bow.

Wow

I just recently thought about making one, while playing Corruption. I was wondering too if anyone had ever made one...
Good work there. My main problem was the lack of different weaponry.

Someone registered could do an awesome visor-interface. It would be great!

Someone made one, a while back. Take a look for it, should be in the interface forum.

And the arrow a metroid or the team 2 :P It  could be nice, a metroid floating as gostek bravo, but should be:
 - Alpha: Samus
 - Bravo: Zero

Yeah, team 2 should either be Zero Suit or one of the Hunters.

Heres a selection of non-hunters suits:

-Normal
-Varia
-Gravity
-Zero
-Fusion
-SA-X
-Dark

I'm not sure if that's all of them.

What about the Ice Missiles from Fusion? You should try to work those in somehow.
It's an interesting idea, but I've never gotten very far in most Metroid games. Got to the last boss in Zero Mission, but that's about it.

It's nice to see all the positive feedback here.  I'll see about some in-game screenies.

Also, I personally think that the best gostek for Bravo team would be Space Pirates, even though the arm cannons would look kinda weird on them.

Lastly, I was wondering what you guys think would make good maps.  I was thinking that Brinstar and Magmoor would make for good CTF maps, while Tourian would be a good INF map, but I'm not entirely sure about what a good DM map would be.

I would, Skykanden, except I'm saving it for the Rambo Bow.  That way it can fire missiles and Super Missiles >:)

And sure, feel free to use my Power Cannon. :)

I agree with CTF and Inf ideas, great ideas, honestly.
Perhaps a DM map could be Samus's Ship part of Crateria?

uhmm, why not parts of the full map? Made with soldat style, it will be hard... but nice
maybe inf(R/S)map:
 Bravo (Space Pirates)
^- On the base ''infected'' Needs to defend

 Alpha (Samus/Space soldiers/hunters)
^- Spawns on the space ship, they need to go by the base kill the space pirates or capture something... the Chozo's Statue?

Wow that's great.

Although some of the guns look kinda similar to each other imo.

Map ideas:
- Chozo hall of the elders / artifact temple
- The mining quary from Phazon Mines
- Phendrana Drifts (it has ruins!)
- Wrecked ship! (Would be great for deathmatch and/or ctf)
- Elysia's flying platforms

If this mod will ever be released, you have atleast one hardcore-metroid fan player ;)
