What IS the Saw?

Some people, they try to use it for kills - just like any other weapon. But is that what the saw is really about?

Aren't there more important and often overlooked tactics involved with the saw that really make it a powerful weapon? Tactics that do not necessarily involve killing? Like I posted in the 'Chainsaw Adrenaline' topic.

1) If you think about it, it can be the greatest intimidation tool. Really. Greater than any other firearm. People underestimate sawers, many times.

2) Sawers will disperse crowds, creating gaps and allowing an ally to exploit them. If a sawer rushes the flag, the opponents will disperse, and a FFC can just swing in and swing back out.

3)  An EFC running from a sawer might not turn around to shoot back (fearing that the saw will catch up) - so an ally with a firearm can deliver unanswered bullets. In fact, the EFC might not shoot at someone in front of them because they don't want to take chances with the saw.

4) Sawers are unpredictable. I know situations where a guy with a barret misfires, and I think 'wow. Free kill'. I waltz up to him prepared to pop his head off, and *bam* a saw in my face.

If you can learn to manipulate the fear-factor involved with the saw, it can seriously change how the team plays the game as a whole. You don't need adrenaline or anything. You just need some innovative thinking.

Quite franlky, I never understood the true meaning of fear until I joined a Soldat Zombie server.

Saw is not really useful in a cw. It could be an advantage in a few spesific spots on spesific maps, but not really something yous hould pack as your standard secondary.

I mean, if you get the first kill with a saw, dont think that guy will be caught so off-guard the next time. Your sawing towards him will only be greeted with a grenade and some bullets to the face.

Some tunnels the saw could be worthy, but a knife would be better even in that situation. More range, and the ability to just pick it up again after you kill.

But as of now, its not much of a tactical weapon.

Yeah, I pretty much use it to whack a guy who gets too close to me, and that's about the extent of it. It does this well.

i dont consider it the "least deadly weapon" because it isnt its a leathal weapon BUT it has to be close to kill which make it a "deadly weapon -- at close range" and a good sawer can take out autos snipers even knifers easily <as long as they superman =]> but i still agree with 4 year old saws are just fun, if your skillful with them good for you but still running around trying to dodge bullets and capture a flag its fun =] and if sawers are tired of sucking and getting sniped then they can go to an all saw server like elite slicers <well knife and saw>

with the backflip its pretty easy to dodge a sawer, no matter if they are almost all up in your face.

My trusty Minimi with bullet-push and nade can take down any sawer. Thus the 'adreniline' idea should make it so that sawers don't have to go to saw-only servers.

You guys need to fight Freeze, he would saw in gathers and scrims.  Its not all he used, but the guy was a monster. He can and will rape your face with it.  The fear factor does exist especially when hes dodging your shots, you panic and your aim gets off.

In the perfect hands, the saw is amazing.

The usefullness of it is gaining enough velocity. Once you reach a certain speed, you can whip out the saw because you know that people probably will not be able to react fast enough.

The thing that makes it suffer is that people is gonna be prepared for the saw whenever they see the guy.

any hp5, aka , mini, m79 ,sniper ,knifer and spas users can take down easily a sawer, i use sniper,knife,m79,hp5,and went im using them no one with a saw can take me down, i find it useless a tool made just for fun but not for a good player would use, im my case i  use knife and is been so easy to kill any sawers, i think knife is the more feared weapon in soldat cause went some one bring it out u know is one trough one kill.

A little off topic but i have a suggestion to make the saw more useful. How about if the chainsaw gave you a little speed boost whenever you had it out, i don't mean actually reving with the chainsaw, but just having it out. Kind of like the knife in counter-strike. It would make it heaps more useful e.g. for pursuing flagger, gaining ground, escaping with flag etc. I still believe the saw will be more balanced this way. And don't say posts like 'it will be too fast' i just said a little speed boost, it could be tiny but its there.

In serious games, like gathers and clan wars, saw is only good for a few surprise kills, or it's only effective when you're above on the skill ladder than your opponent. This is because any decent player can just back off and push the sawer back with an auto: semis and one shots are the weakest against sawers, but even they can manage to pull a last second move to dispose of the pesky enemy. It's still the most fun semi to use out of all, killing with it gives you a feeling of achievement much greater than pulling blind law-shots or socom serial kills, simply because it's tougher to castrate the opponent with it.

If we want to balance it out, we'd need movement that allows you to get close to your enemy even in the greatest hail of gunfire. Less bullet push and smoother movement for the win!
