Barrett Scope
« on: December 23, 2007, 03:38:33 pm »
Well, I have a suggestion which might be rather hard to put in the game, but it is possible.

In real life the Barrett M82A1 has an effective range of 1.5 km and a maximum of 3km. I suggest that the zoom of the Barrett should be increased so that the player can see at least 5 screens away. But, I also suggest a narrower scope view because in real life a sniper can only see a small area through the scope. So it will be a longer but narrower sight. It might make the barrett more useful. And if you think it will be too easy to kill with it, remember that the bullet might be dragged down a long way before it reaches the target.

Noooo nononono.
Five screens is waaaay to much. The suggestion would be good, if not for the implausibility of it. When you're sniping, you'd nor be able to see any obstacles in your way. The only thing it would be good for at that point would be spying.

Also in real life Barrett can shoot like Ruger does now. Let's implement that aswell. And scope for AUG! And LAW to be one-shot only. And knife won't deal any damage in 70% of cases, and with perfect hit, it won't take off more tahn 10% of health. And lets not forget that there are no jetboots in real life...

Sounds good? Maybe you know now why I don't like your idea.

...And deagles fly out of your hand when you fire them both at the same time, and every gun kills in one hit unless you hit them in the legs, in which case they collapse, and grenades kill anyone within 10 feet of them, and the m79 fires across the map with ease, and all other bullets travel too fast to see, and you can't even pick up the minigun, and...

5 screens would be f*cking hell. it already has a 60 meter scope. Which is 2 screens, and you have to crouch. With 5 screens? You would be looking at the enemie's base.

So you fecking noobs like it the way it is now? Like when you fire the scope automatically gets more powerful and follows the bullet?

Also @ the guys making fun of me:

And knife won't deal any damage in 70% of cases, and with perfect hit, it won't take off more tahn 10% of health.

A martial arts expert will kill you 100% of the times by throwing knifes.

And deagles fly out of your hand when you fire them both at the same time,

Again, if an ordinary hunter can hold a .70 caliber rifle and fire it a soldier can hold 2 bloody pistols half the caliber.

and every gun kills in one hit unless you hit them in the legs

Dude with good body armour (like soldiers use) not even a spaz shotgun shell can penetrate

you can't even pick up the minigun, and...

You can pick it up, you can fire it, it's just too bulky.

Dude... Deagles are known for the recoil, do you think you can fire both at the same time, one on each hand, and still keep shooting till you end the clip?.

And no, you cant fire a minigun standing, again, theres something called RECOIL.

Rotfl.... :o

1. No one normal would even throw the knife...

2. Even the Colt have huge recoil and quess what would happen when holding a DE in one hand? The DE is ~3kg weight (depend of the caliber). The bolt is about 1kg heavy so then it's throwen back with damn high speed it can "destroy" your hand. And dont compare the rifle that has stock to the pistol...

3. Here I must agree. You can be hitten to arm and you can survive. Beeing hit from low caliber bullet with "staright ballistic flight" to you waist don't have to kill you too.

4. Rotfl... It weight is ~40kg. Ok it's posible to hold it but imposible too shoot with it (accuracy - joke).

I kinda admit most of them, but I was so angry about all the people making fun of me. I know about the deagle thing, if you don't hold that pistol well, it will jam because the recoil force used to reload the gun will be absorbed by your hand.

BRADEN you don't know the first thing about balancing weapons right? For the love of god, if you know how much 5 SCREENS IS, you would know why the hell this idea is crazy.
Lets add so you cant scope through polies! Lets be able to mount the minigun on a turret! lets fire the law from our shoulders! F11.

5 screens is around 250 - 300m so that's almost the full map of b2b from red to blue flag.

I think that may actually be why the view narrows, y'know, for balance...

Although 5 screens is insane. No. No, no, no, no, no. Just no.

I'd say maybe another half to one screen increase in the zoom, but your view will restrict beyond the first screen.

Meaning, by the time you zoom in fully, the view will have constricted to a width near the cursor.

The original idea: Wholly F11'd.

My idea: F12'd, although it might not be accepted at all.
Don't say that you're Magic. Because you aren't, and I am.
All-around good with weapons that aren't long range, except in TW.

The scope as-is was actually toned down pretty dramatically from earlier versions, where it would zoom instantly, even in midair, and go something like twice as far as it does now. I don't see the zoom changing again any time soon.
