Display system.
« on: December 24, 2007, 09:12:21 am »
What would be usefull:

- Gfx display counting from center pixel. (normaly as bigger the gfx is then it's placed more to right.

It would be usefull for: sparks, fire gfx (weapons flash), cursor (interface) etc.

It would make possibilities to make bigger explosions, tactical cursors, better lookin flashes etc.

Maybe you don't understand but try to make flashbang explosion or tactical cursor that would help you to make perfect aim with Barrett. It's imposible. All graphics that are bigger than starndard ones would be faced to the right so that would make 'em look shity and useless.

Ummm... Perfect aim with the barrett? What do you mean....

He means that if you try to mod your cursor, the gfx counts coordinates from the top left, and the center is at a certain point, so you can't make it bigger without the aim point being off center.

Very useful, actually. F12.
Don't say that you're Magic. Because you aren't, and I am.
All-around good with weapons that aren't long range, except in TW.
Now be careful out there, soldier.

Ehh... I can't explain that...

He means that if you try to mod your cursor, the gfx counts coordinates from the top left, and the center is at a certain point, so you can't make it bigger without the aim point being off center.

Hope that after magic explanation you understand what I mean :)

As I sadi earlier, it would be pretty useful to make a ****.ini file that would have the center points defined in it for every graphic. So we wuld have more freedom to mod the weapons and such.

^ Great idea. The default origin could be top left so as not to screw up previous mods. f12!

Sorry to bump this old thread, but I recently made a thread about how there was a mistake in the deagles graphics, one clip is off by a pixel.

http://forums.soldat.pl/index.php?topic=29816.msg355273#msg355273

And I also brought this graphics origin issue to attention. How the textures always will be drawn or displayed for their top/left origin, which makes it impossible to mod any pixels beyond that, as it would cause offsets, etc.

So they told me to make a new thread here, but I might as well bump this one. I'm really curious about this?

I'd love to have something implemented in the game so that we could modify the origin of where the graphics lay!

F12 !

This issue has been annoying me for ages

Another thing I realized about the deagles clip is when it falls its basically two identical clips. Which is fine until you want to mod two separate individual guns, that may perhaps have two different clips. Perhaps even have a mirrored muzzle flash, in case you want a different muzzle flash for each gun.

I was just working on modding my deagles, and decided to make the deagles muzzle flash two different colors, one for each gun, and realized that wouldn't make much sense when there is no mirrored version of that texture.

I also made one gun silver and the other one black , and did the same for each clip. But then i realized when you reload, only the deserteagle-clip2.bmp gets dropped. I then colored one clip blue and the other yellow, and no matter which way Iwas facing, when i reloaded I was only seeing the yellow ones get dropped.

HAHAHAHAHA

I'm sure this isn't something anyone cares about, they just wanna blow everyone up. But after playing for so many years, It get boring to look at. I tried modding but I got frustrated over stuff like that, hahaha. Maybe I should worry about my 3D modeling practice anyways.

Here's an nice visual example of the problem:

I tried extending a long coat downward from the biodro texture and it works fine, even though its very rigid. Then I tried vertically inverted it for bidrio2, but this obviously won't work as you can see. Its not drawing it from the proper pivot pixel, because I've ended up offsetting the actual center of the pelvis.

If we could implement a textures.INI listing all textures in the game, and modifiable XY offset integers for each texture, that would totally fix this problem. All textures would be x=0,y=0 by default, and if you needed extra pixel room you then simply go into the list and make the correct displacement.

We could then do things like put wings or a cape on the back of your character, or if you wanted to make HUGE bullet graphics you could properly center them, basically anything! This will be ever better when we get animated textures, because you could also do things like make the cape flow, wings flap, or animate massive photon blast bullets. The possibilities would be endless, and the game would look a whole lot nicer!

Thanks for giveing good examples of this idea usage. Hope it'll be added in next version (1.5 non beta or just next beta).
