We have that both times. We didn't buy anything today. For us Boxing day is just for everyone to go spend the gift cards and return crap.

Boxing Day is 'wake up with a hangover from all that Christmas booze and play with your presents' day. Other than that, I don't think much of it. Although it has got a cool name that almost makes it sound like 'Fight Club Day', where there's one huge festive free-for-all public boxing match!

I never knew the point of boxing day, i was told it's when you box all of the crap you don't want, or when you throw away all the crap that your presents were wrapped in, hence the name Boxing day.
What is the real reason?

I think it was from way back when it was a day people went and placed donations in boxes set up by the church or orphanage, forgot which and cbf looking up, just heard it somewhere. Hence boxing day.
