Max avatar size
« on: December 31, 2007, 08:04:35 pm »
I mean... Why is it so small? Does the forums run on some sort of 1995 Windows Xp or something? I mean, It's just freaking butt ugly when your Sig image isn't even as long as it's supposed to be, It's practically a SQUARE! Why so freaking small.

Are you retarded?

"Does the forums run on some sort of 1995 Windows Xp or something?"

It is that small so people don't use big shitty annoying avatars that are 8 times larger then they need be.

No. There is no reason for any extra space. Especially not something as incredibly retarded as a 500x150.

I thought userbars were bad enough.

Because it means 56kers don't have to wait to load crappy/annoying animated signatures and avatars. I have seen forums with terrible signature rules and guess what.... almost everyone has a massive signature with 3-5 images... most of them animated. This isn't a place to show off your shiny new .gif, its a place to interact with people... over the net... (Irony)

You seem to not notice the masses of soldat players who are behind on technology.

I mean... Why is it so small? Does the forums run on some sort of 1995 Windows Xp or something? I mean, It's just freaking butt ugly when your Sig image isn't even as long as it's supposed to be, It's practically a SQUARE! Why so freaking small.

300x125 isn't practically a square; that's an aspect ratio of 2.4. That's the same, or larger, than the aspect ratio of most(all?) theaters in the US (2.40 or 1.85 are most common), and larger than most known film aspect ratios ever used.

The reasoning behind the limit is that there are 15 posts per page, and if everyone has a sig, and each post is by a different person, that's 15 different images you need to load. If they all use the max, even at a 20K limit and 300x125, that's 300K per page load, and 1875 pixels of extra scrolling height. Statistically speaking ~32% of people use 1024x768, and ~40% use 1280x960.

Speaking of sigs, your sig is far too large in file size; it's 60K, max is 20K.

nobody wants crap like this in everybody's signature.

ANNOYING CRAP

it's all to distracrting, it's about the forums not about how big and cool your signature/avatars are.

I agree that it's not funny if everbody has got large gif animations and that stuff, but I don't think this shouldn't be done because of 56kers, since you can disable avatars and signatures from profile settings, like I have done. They could be a bit larger since names and personal texts takes more space than avatars do.

No avatars at all would be better than avatars taking up half the screen.
