It's good of course, but there are better ones. This card will allow you to play the newest games (Crysis, COD4 etc...).

I'd say the 8800 GTS or GTX version, those cards can run Crysis fairly on high settings.

What is more important than being able to run something like crysis is whether or not you want to play things like crysis.

I am getting a new ATI for the orange box, the only/most graphically intensive games I have happen to use ATI well, so I am upgrading from an ancient x550 to a more hospitable HD card.

Yea, ATI HD 2900XT did better than Geforce 8800 GTX on some benchmarks, ATI has many driver problems, but the ATI deal is much better because of the orange box bundle. Team fortress and Episode 2 are amazing.

I just up'd my Radeon x600 to a Sapphire Radeon 3870 512 GDDR4 (250$ can), I'm loving it. I dont use geforce because ive never had one before....just used to ATI/AMD

On average, the Radeon HD 3870 gives us a 6 - 10% increase in performance over the more expensive, less featured, louder Radeon HD 2900 XT. Not bad for improvement over the course of 6 months.

HD 2900 XT is teh sucks. Plus the 3870 is way cheaper.

8800 GT 512 meg. Bought one online from Futureshop for $250 + taxes + $2 shipping, on boxing day(Dec 26th), it arrived yesterday. Can't beat that for price/performance.

As CGBK said, you can't beat 8800GT, if you care about price/performance.

HD2900XT is BAD, BAD BAD and BAD. First of all the power consumption is huge compared to HD3870, and thus the TDP of the core is huge, meaning that it will produce heat alot more than HD3870. Basically HD3870 is a new version of HD2900XT. It uses  a die-shrink of R600 core, and thus it is cheaper to produce, better yeilds and it cnosumes alot less power. Not to mention that the cooler is WAY more silent than the supercharged spinner the HD2900XT has.

No, you don't want to get 8600 if you play any recent games, and care about FPS and graphics. No +60FPS @ CoD4/Crysis with 8600. Go get that HD3850/HD3870 or that GeForce 8800GT.

You wont be able to get 60+ @ crysis with a single HD3850/HD3870 as well... (on high settings)
But it's still better than buying a 8600. Even with lots of MB-ram. Very expensive, and does nothing more than a HD3850/HD3870.
But if you just want to play soldat. DON'T YOU EVEN DARE TO SPEND OVER 80$ ON A GRAPHICS CARD.
80$ is enough to get 300fps....

Crysis is a retarded exception, besides, the ati 3870 (which I'm getting soon) can run Crysis on Very High detail level, at 1280x1024 at 15 fps, no AA.. that's unplayable of course, but the point is, these settings can be reduced to like High and 1024x768 or 800x600, the game would still look great, and it'd be playable, you might be able to spice it up with 2x AA as well. And there's still the possibility of cross-firing which is cheaper than the Geforce cards. (the 3870 costs 243$)

I've discussed this with some friends and they agreed that the ati 3870 is the best choice right now, even better than Geforce 8800 Ultra, simply because all these are first generation DX10 cards, so they all suck at DX10, I can play all the games I want with this one, I can even crossfire for better performances. And when the second generation tough cards show up, I'll be sure to get one.

If you dont spend over 80 on your GFX card its gonna be like obelete in like a year or two maybe.

[Kinda off topic] I just blew my old new cards memory. Im getting a 512mb rather than a 256. I love customer service.

well just go with a 8800...do not compare the results with Crysis because that game is intended to make hype. All the developers can put everything Crysis has in their games but they know that gamers want a working game. So they balance verything so it works on the current hardware.

OBEY!!!

What do you mean? Don't tell me you are saying that HD3870 > 8800Ultra. :D

8800GT > *. It is not the fastest, but it has the best price/value ratio. Nothing can beat that.

Btw, Crysis is a joke. :D

Actually I do say that 3870 > 8800 ultra, the 3870 is like 75% of the 8800GTX, and Ultra is 120% of the GTX, Now, 3870 costs 243$ and doesn't use as much power as ultra, and it's 400$ cheaper, you can crossfire and get the same performance of ultra and it'd still be 150$ cheaper. besides, as I've said, all these cards get killed by DX10 (they're still first gen), they're all just being hastily packed to get in the race, the real action begins when the next gen DX10 cards hit the market.
