I'm on M00's side on this one, Lebanon has just fought and gained its freedom recently and were working on becoming a very peaceful place.  Its only the Hezbullah or whatever that caused this.  Right now they are pleading for help from outsiders, they even asked to stop bombing the cities and let them eliminate the Hezbullah themselves.  I dont know but right now I am extremly against Israel.  Today they killed 8 Canadians there.  Earlier they bombed a fucking beach.  My friend is there right now, a completly innocent person going home to visit his family for a week, but Israel comes along and destroys the runway of the airport, then comes back and destroys the terminal, then a third time to make sure its done so now he is trapped.  The people in Lebanon right now are having to live in bomb shelters.  My friend is trapped in his house and has to flee to his grandfathers bombshelter but cannot because he needs to take a boat to get to it and sea is blocked by israel.  He can't flee to Syria either because the roads are destroyed.  So right now he is stuck to suffer from the bombs being dropped all around his area in Beirut and all he can do is pray.  I think its disgusting what Israel is doing and somebody needs to stop them

black hole. wont truly end earth, but will stop it. since there are hundreds on our earth aready, though they usually last billionths of a second. the problem is, is when we have an atom crushed, and the black hole survives it. then slowly time will stop for the objects right bfore they get into the hole because of the speed you are traveling, but it will seem very slow. so right now we all(most probably) are moving hundreds of millions of miles an hour, but time slows down so it seems regular. (also humans cannot detect time, if time speeded up we wouldnt notice because our 3 dimensional bodies dont work that way.) then we would keep slowing down as we got closer to the center of the black hole. but since time would slow down it would be impossible to have time completely stop. if you are mathematically minded here is what it would be like

time=t
distance from center of hole=d
speed=s

s=d/t
d=t/s
t=s/d

Time stopping from the slowing of the Earth's rotation due to... something my science teacher pointed out, so one side of the Earth is in perpetual darkness, and the other in perpetual sunlight. I'm sure that the perpetual darkness side won't go too well, considering plants need sunlight for photosynthesis.

Right, didn't realise what they were actually doing. Apparently they've been using white phosphorus incendiary bombs against civillians, which makes them just as bad as Hezbollah.

You do know that those equations are nothing close to describing a black hole, right?  I would check my math over if I were you.

From what you wrote:   s = d/t (correct)

You also wrote: d = t/s (incorrect)

This is incorrect.  For s to equal d/t , d would have to equal t*s (t times s).

Besides...just look at how it breaks down with units.  X minutes times Y miles/ minute = Z miles.  The minutes cancel out.
With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams it is
still a beautiful world.  Strive to be happy.

Yeah and that the plants on the sunny side would burn. Then the dark side would be freezing. So probably in the middle between the two, something could survive, most likely moss >_>

I hate thinking about this, its really depressing.
Beliefs are dangerous. Beliefs allow the mind to stop functioning. A non-functioning mind is clinically dead. Believe in nothing.

Time won't stop if the earth slows down... our current measurement of time will be slightly buggered, that's all.

The only way to achieve perpetual light/darkness is to have:

  a) The Earth rotating at exactly 1 revolution per year.
  b) The Earth's axis of rotation directly aligned with the sun.

because the same point on the Earth would have to be facing the sun at all times.

If the Earth stopped rotating, you'd have half a year of light, then half a year of darkness, or to be more precise, starting from complete darkness, your position on the Earth (most of it anyway), would get increasingly brighter for half a year, then increasingly darker for the second half, and so on, and so forth.

That's how I imagine it anyway.

Either way, we'd probably be screwed. 8)

I think its either global warming, a nuclear meltdown, or something completely unexpected, like a wormhole opening from some distant planet.... Hey, quantum physics says it could happen....

Heh, that sounds about right. I forgot about the tilt of the Earth for one minute there.

EDIT: And the concept of "never seeing the dark side of the moon" kind of comes into there too, with the half year of darkness, half year of light. But still, the Earth would have to slow down to stop, and by then it would have been spinning 1 rotation per year for at least a little while.

Still has the same effect, though, because as you said:
Either way, we'd probably be screwed. 8)

End of the world, hm? Let's see. I imagine something like this:

1. Mid east, etc. go up in a big war amongst themselves, along with Korea and stuff, of course.
2. After some time the UN says: "Fuck religion, it's caused untold billions of problems"
3. Blam, governments destroy religion in effort to fix things
4. God says: "Lol, human goverments ftl"
5. Apocalypse
6. Surviving humans pick up remains of destroyed society and restore earth.

Someone care to explain string theory and why we wouldn't die of a black hole? The chances of a star imploding into a black hole are extremely rare, and Hawking himself admitted to being wrong about black holes destroying information, but merely misplacing and rearranging it (Susskind or what's his name wrote a dissertation on it).

This is what makes me very suspicious...
If Israel is not careful enough in their bombing that they kill 8 Canadians, how the hell do they know they haven't already bombed their captured soldiers?
Retrieving them was their excuse for attacking wasn't it?

It seems like they know that their soldiers are not there.

Also the original "kidnapping" at Gaza is suspicious. The official story states that the captors dug a 650 m tunnel across the border. But the border area is all sand! How the hill do you dig a tunnel in sand!?

I wouldn't be surprised if Mossad (Israeli secret service) was behind both "kidnappings".
After all, their motto is: "By way of deception, thou shalt do war"
