photo editing and retardstuff
« on: January 10, 2008, 12:26:32 pm »
I've got this picture here:

It was hand-drawn and scanned.  I'd like to make it look like it was drawn on the computer or something.  Make the "black" look black, the lines look more defined, and the whitespace transparent.  How would I do it, what software would I need?

Or maybe if it's something really simple, somebody could do it for me and score some brownie points with n00bface..

I'll see what I can do.
BTW it already looks like it's made on the computer ;D
Your lines are really smooth. What did you use for pen?

I didn't draw it, it was made for me by a somewhat-famous logo artist with a very distinctive style, and he uses the same method of scanning with every logo.  I don't want to be it very recognizable, so I don't want to do a generic color-inversion.  Having it transparent would be nice - I could resize it, convert it, use it for the website, album titles etc.  But right now it's in bad shape!

Edit:  I got a very smooth image by using a vector program that n2j3 recommended to me-

It came out VERY smooth..the problem is that once it's made transparent in irfanview, there are still white lines around it that stand out.

My finished attempts.
It might look a little different as I vectorised it first. Tell me if you like it or not. I could try do it entirely in PS.

Thanks!!  I am still going to traffic it around a bit to see if a few things can be restored.  A little detail in the fine lines was lost :(

Wow, pretty nice outcome there.  You guys both get all of the brownie points I had saved for this!!

Edit: the second one that blackdevil uploaded was also able to restore a lot of the fine detail (shadow lines around the curves, etc.) - is it possible for you to add the glare to that one, Serial Killer?  It makes everything look a little more smooth!

Just wondering what good tool can you use to create vectorize images? never used it

played with some filters:

Here's a nice online tool: http://vectormagic.stanford.edu/
Otherwise, I've heard inkscape is another one!

Thank you very much for the work on the logo!!  The filter experiment looks neat, but I think it's a little too radical for anything I'd need :)
