New Free 3D Web Browser Available!
« on: January 12, 2008, 03:21:24 pm »
It's called Space Time and is a program that lets you surf the web in a way similar to the way you switch between windows in Vista.  I just downloaded it and it works well and adds a new dimension to web browsing.  Some of you will say "big deal" but either way, I suggest you try it out.  It's realy a cool program.  I'm not sure if it will work on XP but you can try.    Download it from the Space Time Website.

A plugin for what? IE, FF, Safari, Opera?

That's useless. It looks good, but it takes too much time to switch between web pages and it slows down your computer. I still prefer browser tabs, which is much faster than this.

And are you kidding me? This took them several years to create?!

I got a chance to look at it.

Its an alright idea but its not gonna take off in that format. The 3D desktop is way more useful than the 3D browser.

I thought it's gonna make a 3D diagram of the webpages found in google etc...

Why is it so hyped now? I don't get why rotating webpages in 3d is something innovative. Most of the stuff they "invented" actually exists in the form of plugins for Firefox, or on a smaller scale, widgets for Opera.

This sucks. Nothing innovative, it's just for the looks.

Works fine on my laptop.  But yeah, I had a feeling this would be hated by some.

Agreed.

Nothing innovative...

Don't agree.
Your saying the plugins (firefox, opera) are not innovative?

They are taking a lot of things that already exist and combining them together for you. Then adding the aero look to it.

This combination of useful items has not been done before (that I know of), and therefore is innovative. I do not think the negative in this case is what it does, but rather what it does not do.

Problem is, most users value practicality and functionality over appearance.  People will download this, realized that there are better solutions, and delete it.  This is a lost cause, which is unfortunate, since it IS pretty nifty.

Only anime shows I've felt any interest in over the years are Pokemon (original TV series) and various hentai.
so clearly jgrp is a goddamn anime connoisseur. his opinion might as well be law here.

The only people who would use this are those people who have really good computers and yet don't use them for anything. Basically any person who has Vista because of its graphical eye-candy rather than operating functionality.

Basically Mac-tards who can't afford Macs.

I didn't say the plugins aren't innovative, but the program itself, in my opinion isn't innovative. It doesn't have any practical uses, because if you do search something, you want it to be fast. And this doesn't make the search faster, but loads all of the pages all at once... which isn't really useful. Some people are on dial-up, or have bandwidth limits like me (5 gigs a month), and if I was to search with that crap all the time, I'd certainly spend valuable time and megabytes with no real result.

On the other hand, it is unique and some people will like it, especially the mactards-who-can't-afford-macs :P

and mangled, can't wait for that new UT mod

What I want from my browser:

1) It has to work fast and it bloody well has to act fast. It needs to be as fast as I am at Soldat.

2) It has to be simple and very functional and useful. I use Firefox so I can use tabbed browsing and 3rd party plugins.

3) It has to display html properly. Firefox actually doesn't display html properly... custom scroll bars don't display.

However.. it's better than IE which completely fails to display html properly.. Firefox interprets 0% as 0% so if in the html something has the display attribute of 0%, it will not show up. But IE will interpret 0% as 100% in the sense that 0 = infinity, which makes no sense. So I use Firefox because I want to see what is really there.

And thanks Will :)

Custom scroll bars are a proprietory IE extension of HTML, not part of the actual standard.

It's funny because there's quote on the Space Time site that proves your point:

"I think I've found a product that makes the Google interface look like it was designed by Apple."
