Well yeah, you become good in normal mode to a certain extent, too, if you play realistic. But e.g. in Germany there are some guys from the realistic (or realistic/survival) clan scene that started to play normal mode. Ok, they can keep up with some random clanner, but although they may be god on R/S (like onetwo from UT), they don't even get close to the best normal mode players from Germany.
Well, this only might matter if you want to become the best. But be honest, you really don't want to become "just good", do you? There is always some room to improve.
R / R/S players especially fail on normal, because they don't have experience  in boosting themselves with explosives and in using nades properly.

Well R/S and only Realistic are very diferent. I'm talking about basic skills, like aiming and etc. For eg. i don't even bother going to R/S or even R/S/A servers, because i am bad at it. And i'm not so good on realistic either. I have a lot to learn, but i'm too old for this and can't spare that much time i used to. But at least to me, after playing on realistic for a long time, it was very easy on normal modes to aim.

Bots make the best practice.  You can also try to play in zombie servers.  It really helps with your accuracy and speed.

Yeah..once you realize how they react to enemy presence it becomes so boring and easy, especially on realistic mode, when you know, that they don't do anything, if you aren't in their visible area, even if you spam taunts behind him (try to do that behind a player lol)

Yep, I mastered DM before starting CTF. DM teaches you to kill efficiently and quickly, so that'd help you out a LOT in other gametypes.

Or you can just click on the Quote box on the Right hand side of the persons post and it automatically inserts their whole text With their name and time of post ect.

Know your weapons and maps its good to have the advantage of know where to go especially in ctf. Of Course Practice. Join a clan it is much better then fighting it publics. Have a style of play ;o

Really just playing more is the best way, but getting to know the maps and tricks also helps a lot. Maybe try watching a gather before you do one so you have an idea what it will be like, try and follow a good player.

As already mentions gathers, for me seem to work the best: 3v3 CTF, a lot of good players play in them. If you want to play them download mIRC, or any IRC program.

If you are North American: #sna.gather @ quakenet
and if you are Euro: #soldat.gather @quakenet

Yeah, I'd love an Australian gather... but what I usually do is organise a game with a few friends and book a server from GameArena
