« on: January 22, 2008, 10:52:47 am »
my friend has a dual core pc and soldat gets these
hiccups and fps drops all the time plz help

that he has tried at least 2 video cards, and it's still the same, so it's not a video card problem

he has over 30 GB of free uncompressed HDD space

I run on a dual core processor (E6850, each core overclocked to 3160mhz) without any problems. Most problems with freezing and FPS drops are to do with the OS being used, specifically Vista.

What video cards were used, and what driver revision was used with each one? I run an 8800 GT 512MB using the ForceWare 169.21 drivers.

Its either a server problem, or its the fact that your using Intel...

I use Intel without a problem, as do most(all?) people, please avoid spreading FUD.

he has Intel Core 2 Duo at 2.0 GhZ each
with Windows XP Pro SP 2
with the video card Nvidia Geforce 8800GT
he said that It's not a video problem, because the same was happening with other games (such as Wolf ET), but I fixed it in Wolf ET so it doesn't have any more stuttering

he has latest drivers for everything

I have a dual core amd64 4400+ and it runs fine, if it's really a dual processor problem then :
Task manager -> Soldat.exe -> Right click -> Set affinity -> Uncheck any of the two processors.

It could be another problem, ie: sound/other chipset/card drivers, could be unstable/damaged RAM, could be a PSU that lacks enough power to power the system fully (common problem if you upgrade a system from ie: Dell, HP, etc, as they use bare minimum power supplies)

It is not a problem related to the processor, look elsewhere.  Dual core processors are the same as (as far as the operating system and programs are concerned) having hyperthreading or dual processors.  I am willing to bet that half of the people on this forum have dual core, HT, or dual processors.

Intel vs AMD has no impact on the stability of a game.

How or what did you do exactly to fix this problem?  Even though they are completely different games, based on how you fixed it, it possibly could be done with Soldat.

Sorry sir. I've had problems with Intel in the past, but maybe dual cores are more reliable than the Pentium 4 crap I had...

Only problems with the Pentium 4 were the enormous heat dump, power draw, and the lack of performance to show for it when compared to AMD; any stability problems or other problems I can guarantee were not the result of the processor. Unless you had a damaged processor, which isn't Intel's fault, or a manufacturing defect, which would be covered under their warranty.

The biggest problem anyone can have with a computer is buying it from a mass producing manufacturer such as Dell, HP, etc. as these companies have to cut as much costs as they can to make a profit, meaning cheap chinese power supplies that barely supply enough power for the system, and sub-par components for the system when compared to what is available to consumers.

His computer is all working fine, HDD, heat, RAM, etc.
He had stuttering problems in other games, such as Wolf ET, but fixed them by setting the affinity of the game to 1 core
He tried that with Soldat and it didn't work, still has stuttering.

Even though this might not be an issue, try a virus scan.  Viruses can affect Soldat's performance.  If that isn't a problem, it could be a connection problem.  The servers could have high ping or are laggy.
