I hear the economy has been on a downfall. Also if what I am hearing is true its been failing since Clinton and people are now just noticing. If this is true then it will suck because we have to play the blame game then when it gets even worse someone wil finally start to think of a way to fix it.

Looks like it's time to colonize Mars.  I hear there aren't any Russians there.

In all seriousness though, a good first step would be to stop accumulating debt in the manner in which the US has thus far.  Punching people in the wallet hurts, but that just might be because of how they make you sit funny...

I really find that hard to believe.

Yeah but it's not a huge economic depression, which I think we've been talking about.

Well what I hear our problem is... is that we stopped selling things to other countries. We just started buying them. If thats really the problem and its not just government mismanaging fund then we are probably head for a depression if we don't put a stop to it. Who knows... I get to tired of politics its hard for me to keep up with current news, cause I get tired of the blame game.

The problem is an epic rise foreclosures caused fewer people to buy shit. If you give a lot of people money, they end up buying stuff which is like a jump start for an economy.

That is bush's plan.

Huh? The Iranian government itself isn't actually doing terrorism itself.

Actually I think it's the other way around...

the US is a threat to Russia.

Did anyone listen to Bush's State of Union? One thing he pointed was that American exports were increasing, but our products are being taxed overseas while imported products in America remain duty-free. He is going to "level the playing grounds"... whatever the feck that means.

He proposed a 156 billion dollar "economic bailout" and pleaded for the Senate to not add a stimulus deal (which includes giving billions of dollars to the unemployed and elderly). In addition, I believe he mentioned that giving money to business owners will stimulate the economy - which means more money for oil companies.

He also made it clear that any bill he receives urging a tax increase would be vetoed immediately. So yeah, these are all things we have heard plenty of times and now means, "we're incredibly stupid, leave us alone".

The American economy as plateaued over the last year. Let's see where Obama will be able to take us.

I cut out a healthy portion of what you said, just because the first sentence of this quote caught me.

First of all, oil companies make enough money regardless of what Bush does.  They have a product everyone needs, regardless of nationality.  Oil companies make money.  Period.

Don' see this as any sort of attack, but giving more money to oil companies is like throwing oil on a fire (no pun intended).  I'm all about some change in the way things are run in financial terms, but anyone coming into this pile of sh*t better have their head in the game.  It's not just one person, or Obama, or anyone else for that matter.  This country lacks the ability to solve it's own problems at this point in time.  The type of nationality that revitalized the American economy in the early 20th century is nowhere to be found in this day and age; instead, it is replaced with a paper thin layer of patriotism and a shrewd sense of justice.

And that isn't the go ahead for people to start hating on America either.  Far from it.  Just an observation.

Problem with the 'economy boost' plan is it hurts the US gov't's already tremendous amount of debt, and chances are people will just keep buying things that we're getting from other countries in the first place. And another likely thing to happen is that they'd just horde the money, out of fear of an economic depression.

And bad news, European dudes. If our economy goes down, yours will probably follow.

Hey guys, it's been a while since I've posted but me and my debate partner have a competition coming up, the topic is; "Is Russia a threat to U.S. interests?

I know you guys are a well educated bunch (BAH HAHAHA!) so I was wondering if you have any ideas for debate topics, we need to be able to do both pro and con on it.

US Isn't threatened by anyone as long as we stop sticking our noses into other peoples's countries' business.

I never thought I'd support a Republican candidate for president after experiencing the stupidity of Bush, but I think everyone here who cares about the US and US role in the world should check out Ron Paul for 2008's presidential race.  I found out about him and now I really really hope he beats out all of the other Republican candidates in the primaries.  Search youtube for his debate clips and look through the news, it is amazing how rapidly he's gaining support everywhere, even from [up until now] hardcore Democratic supporters.

I'm really hopeful and optimistic about him gaining the support needed to beat out those other 3 idiots in the Republican primaries, but if he doesn't then I'll default to a Democratic vote, assuming Ron Paul doesn't run independent.  If he runs independent, he has my vote.

He supports following the Constitution, something that hasn't been done in 8 years.  He supports bringing our troops home from almost every base around the world.  He isn't an isolationist, he'd take action in the world if it was needed... he just doesn't believe in being the world's policeman and doesn't believe in fighting this undeclared and unjust war in the middle east.

I don't agree with him on a lot of things, but on most controversial topics (abortion, gun control, etc), he would delegate the power to decide those matters to the states, as it should be.

Watch the debate and interview videos.  He is very human, extremely smart, and very kind/well-mannered.  All of the other candidates are dumb, mud-slinging asshats who ignore any questions they are asked and push their own agenda out there.

I really should make a separate thread about this....

No need.  Everyone on the internet already supports Ron Paul. =P

Hoarding money is more likely to cause an economic depression than prevent it. I could be wrong, but wouldn't the government hoarding money decrease the supply of money, thereby creating deflation which stifles investment and therefore economic growth?

I'm talking about citizens who get their spending money hoarding it, not the gov't. At the moment, the government doesn't have any money to hoard, only loans from China.

Also, Obama.
