Wow flies, way to stick up for microsoft.

How exactly is correcting blatantly incorrect information interpreted as sticking up for something?

Even if you criticize something doesn't mean you can't correct false information being spread; if you want to criticize you should do it for legitimate reasons.

Yahoo, Microsoft, and Google are all competitors. 

For my entire life up until that point where you said that I was under the impression that Yahoo was a sub-company owned by Google.

That was probably because a few years ago Google and Yahoo seach pages looked almost identical and I'm pretty sure Yahoo used multiple colours in their logo the same way Google did... or maybe that was my imagination.

Anyway like I said, nobody cares about Yahoo.

They've never really looked that much alike, and in particular Yahoo! has always used a flat red colored logo; compare them throught history:

You can see the BETA version of google in '98, when it was just starting, and Yahoo circa '96, when sites still used horrible low quality GIF images because everyone was on dial-up.

In the sense that both sites used a minimal approach, with simple amounts of text and low amounts of images, yeah, you can say they are similar, but so were most pages at that time, as 56K was the most common connection. Visitors to your site didn't want to wait 3 minutes for your site to finish loading when all they wanted to do was find something.

A long, long time ago, Yahoo licensed access to Google's search database.  This was before they got into web search themselves.  This was 10+ years ago, I believe

Yahoo! was incorporated in 1995, although the search engine itself existed in 1994 on Stanford's site under the url akebono.stanford.edu/yahoo; Google was incorporated in 1998, but was officially started in 1996; 2 years after Yahoo!. Yahoo! initially beta tested using Google as their actual underlying search engine in 1999(as it was the best search engine hands down at that period); they formed an official agreement in 2000, which ended in 2004 when Yahoo! decided to return to their own technology after acquisitions of several smaller web search companies.
