Thunderstorm effects.
« on: February 02, 2008, 11:34:27 am »
How about adding some lightnings and thunder? It could work in this way - random lightning graphic is spawned in random place on map in random time in height ~250-300 pixels over polys with playing random sound in the same time (there would be also far sound with time delay depend of how far has thunderbolt showed.)

Here you have some gfx. I'll add sfx later.

No one would agree for that but there's chance for makin' it just a visual effect.

Yeah, let's keep it realistic.

I'd like to say, I love this idea! It's been on my mind before, somewhat, and I think it's one of those things that would take soldat a step further. if I can make a suggestion? How about when lightning flashes, the screen goes white for a third of a second or so? Sort of like a miniature flashbang, you know? Just to enhance the effect?

Also, if the sound thing was to go through, and we would actually have background soundeffects, may I suggest we take another looks at this: http://forums.soldat.pl/index.php?topic=17543.0?

Great idea, mate.
I fucking miss all you cunts!

C:/Soldat/Sparks-gfx/explosions/lightning strike.

This'd be great as a mapmaker element.

I'm not sure if Soldat supports animated GIF scenery and such, but you may already be able to do this by... Making an animated GIF and placing it behind the map itself.

Damn, you're a genious!

I didn't really care about the lightning effects in the first place, but now that echo_trail brought his splendid idea up, hell yeah, that sounds like something!

1. Light screen is propably unneeded. You can make alpha flash around the bolt :)

2. Gif?! No! Just make .png picture to show and then to dissapear with a bit softness.

It will be map scenery only for now. Your idea can be achieved (minus the sound effects) with the animated gif scenery.

Don't expect there to be many 'insane' maps with animated scenery. The tool which most maps are now made with, Polyworks, does not support GIF's in any way shape or form, and Anna isn't capable of adding such a thing to her program.

Won't it be better if done by .png file? Gif have a bit s*ity quality (less colours) and they have only option of full transparency (no alfa) as I guess. Why without sounds? :)

Btw: Separated gfx and sfx.

No. I like thunderstorm... ;D (posts like this have no sense)

Tornadoe to be realistic would have to make everything flying = no sense.

Thunderstorm can be realistic - thunderbolts far away.

What about small tornadoes then? If they are small - they don't have enough power to affect objects.
