PS2 suggestions
« on: February 07, 2008, 04:02:34 pm »
I decided, with all my hard earned money, that I would go buy a ps2, probably sometime tomorrow.

I know there are/were some hardcore ps2 fanatics here and i want some of your suggestions as far as games go. I used to have an xbox, so i kinda know what games i do want, but ps2 has a much bigger selection.

I want games that are a good single player and good replay value.

Game genre's I like the most: FPS (3rd person, doesnt matter), RPG, Racing, Football

I would also like to know if their are any good dogfighting(airplanes/jet fighters/etc.) games out there.

One game play style i liked, was starwars battlefront, it wasnt much when it came to campaigns but as i dont usually play with a lot of people, i like games that have bots to play against, in multiplayer and such, like red faction.

I am also wondering if MX vs ATV unleashed is a game worth buying.

Anyways, suggest away ;)

MX vs ATV is ok, my neighbor has it, i never played the story but its still fun to mess around with

and i would suggest MERCENARIES: playground of destruction.

seriously fun. freeroaming, 3rd person, destructable enviorment, good graphics, hella-fun."

and you cant go wrong with need for speed underground 2 ;)

RATCHET AND CLANK

Best stuffs ever. Funny, great gameplay amazing story (funny...) and neat design of the weapons (turn enemies into ducks and such) and it looks pretty good.

Well... I'll just list a few games I love and describe them a little...

The Mark of Kri - 3rd person action adventure, VERY linear, but it's fun. The fighting system is like nothing you've ever seen, and works nicely.

Prince of Persia, Warrior within AND Prince of Persia, the two thrones - Great, linear games with superb acrobatics and an awesome fighting system. slashing them open during a walljump, it's like freerunning with swords. (I suggest you read a little about the story of PoP: sands of time and then buy warrior within, it's definately the best game in the franchise, because of the awesome dahaka scenes and story.)

GTA: vice city or GTA: san andreas. (Unless you played them on a different system, of course) - no description needed

Jak 3 - Neat platformer with a great atmoshpere. I never played Jak & daxter or Jak 2, but with only a little research about the storyline, you'll love this little gem. A platformer set in the wastelands with kind of a cartoony mad max atmosphere.

Stuntman - You either love this game, or you hate it. It's the most linear game possible, but nailing every trick can really satisfy you.

Driver: parallel lines - Driver one was great, driver 2 was meh, driv3r was pushed to retail way before it was finished, but Driver: parallel lines is back on the right tracks. It's got a cool atmosphere, a lovely 70's vibe, and the gameplay is much better than what you'd expect from the newest driver game.

Metal Gear Solid... well.... I loved MGS2 AND MGS3, but MGS2 isn't loved by many. I suggest MGS3... - Stealth game with a great story, although clearly fictional...

any burnout game - they're fast, they're fun, it's a racing game with a lot of destruction

but of those, the top 3 for me is:

1. Prince of Persia: Warrior Within
2. Driver: Parallel lines (I love it so much I also have it for Wii)
3. I can't really decide on the third place... so it's a top 2.... sue me...

anyway... I hope I helped you.

Burnout 3 (or Burnout Revenge)
Jak 3
Just about any Ratchet and Clank title.
Metal Arms: Glitch in the System
Metal Gear Solid 2 (From what I've heard 3 is good too, but I haven't played it)
Timesplitters 2 or 3
God of War I or II (If you like action/platformers)
Tekken 5 or Soul Calibur 3 (if you're into fighters; I'm just naming games I own and like)
I attend grammar school, last grade, and ignorance is all around me. Well, good for them. Ignorance is bliss.

Yeah, i had sands of time on xbox, loved the game, i'll plan on getting these eventually.

As well as burnout, had for xbox, cant go wrong.

I've never tried the MGS games, i'll make sure to look into them.

Question:

Is battlefield 2 a game worth buying? I saw it in the store when i was looking around, but i never heard anybody say anything about it.

not a ps2 game, if you mean battlefront 2 then yeah I guess you could get it, it is a very multiplayer game, and if you don't have online or if a lot of people aren't online then it sucks.

Seems weird buying a last gen console now, but the very best games for the PS2 is the prince of persia trilogy.

Seriously, if you have a ps2 you should own those games.

I'd save my money for a PS3 or a 360, but Battlefield 2 on ps2 apparently sucks pretty heavily. Nowhere near what it is on the PC.
Shadow Of The Colossus FTW!!

not a ps2 game

In my honest opinion, no it's boring as hell and the controls suck. What happened to the Xbox?

I would buy an xbox360 but the thing about that is...

I'm poor, i'd be able to buy the console... about 1 game... and... well thats it. When i can buy a playstation 2, and have about 10 games... at the start.

10 decent games > 1 great game... yes!

I consider myself somewhat of a ps2 veteran, and I love my little black box(slim, naturally).

I have a shitload of games, some for every taste, but my top 3 would definitely be:

1. Final Fantasy X. it is seriously the best game I've ever tried. Some people say it doesn't really go aling with the rest of the FF series, but I think it's fucking excellent. i love it. I'd really recommend trying this out.

2. Prince of Persia: Sands of Time + Warrior Within. SoT was the first of the releases, and it was also an early release for the ps2 in general, as it can also be seen graphicwise. but the story is just amazing, and it is truely worth a shot. it's definitely one of my favorite games. WW is just as good, 'cept it's got better graphics. Storywise I like the first one better, but gameplay wise this one is quite more... atletic. You should try both.

3. Shadow of the Colossus. PS2 has never seen graphics like this. It's just mindblowing, and it's definitely a game in it's own class. I can't even begin to explain how it is, you should try it. Check out pictures, you'll be amazed.

Radical, definately get this game. I played the demo and I found it really unique and fun.

I actually don't own any of the games listed in this thread except for PoP: Sands of Time. I've heard nothing but good things about them, though.

I also recommend some of the Tom Clancy games (Unless you've played the superior Xbox versions) and SSX 3/On Tour. The Ace Combat games are also excellent exclusives for the system. Gran Turismo 3 and 4 are also great, if you're into extreme car realism.

Another amazing game on PS2 (and soon coming to the Wii) that I've seen videos of that I really, really want to get right now is Okami.

However, I'm disappointed with everyone in this thread except for Lord Frankamunch. How on earth could you forget God of War 1 and 2?! :O

Killzone - Best looking FPS for the PS2 and has a nice "realism" feel
Red Faction 1(highly destructible terrain, tunnels FTW^^) & 2 - FPS
Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance 1 & 2 - RPG

OBEY!!!

Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance 1 & 2 - RPG

I bought the second one, and it made me want to kill myself. Probably the worst game I have, next to "Samurai Warriors". And that's really horrible.

The 1st one's even worse. And yet my brother has racked up at least 50 hours playing it.
