This is my own advice, and over the years I've been playing this is what has worked for me.


As you become a more accomplished knifer, you will find that most throws come out of reaction, and that you will be aiming less physically, and more mentally.

So my tip is this: Stay at a higher altitude compared to your enemies, use the knife before your primary to force yourself to use it, and treat the charge-up as a firing delay, there is really nothing anyone can tell you to become a great knifer. It comes with experience and practice.

..Anyway, the best advice I can give you, besides that it takes a lot of practice to get good at knives.. (I'm still far from expert) it's basically about how well you aim, your expected arc and how hard you throw it. Plus you have to practice tapping "F" and then getting your finger back to "D". You may find when you start learning how to throw a knife that your habit of throwing nades will be replaced for a while... as in your mind basically switches knives for nades.. so instead of hitting "E", you now nail "F" instinctively. This is because you have to hit an extra button now, and your brain is used to just WASD + X (prone) + E (nade), so for the first while you may instinctively switch E for F. If this does happen, it's normal anyway, just keep throwing knives and slowly go back to using nades again... then just practice using both - either/or until it's habit.

Also, like I said, it's how hard you throw. You need to remember that "F" is sensetive. A slight tap will toss the knife a short distance. Press and hold will use full force. F has the same sensetivity as E when tossing a nade.

Final tip I can give you... and this is how I learned to use knives is to fight a few bots on a DM map... and keep fighting on the same map. I made myself a small map while learning map layout... and as I was constantly playtesting it, I started using and learning a knife on it. Small because, you'll be constantly in close quarters to your enemies when fighting. Always the same map because you will learn and start to notice your mistakes. If you keep constantly throwing a knife at a spawning enemy past a small cliff for instance... you'll slowly start to see what is too weak for a toss and what is too much. You'll also start to see what angles to aim at, the physics when you throw while moving fast, the arc, etc.

Here's a link to my map I learned on if you want it. It's not pretty, but has decent layout and is well waypointed for one of my first maps. It's 3 to 4 player only, so don't fight against more than 3 bots.

be care full, i destroied my mouse that way i was to angry and i was throwing a knife, then i hold down that scroll so hard that it broke and the scroll fell in to the mouse.

Play, and play more. Suddenly you'll see that you hit from outstanding places and distances. And if you're running with knife and someone comes, you just need to press the throwing button when you're near and you slice him, that's the way I'm doing it.

just throw knives around in any game mods, that will usually help you. i play in CTF server where there are lossa people, so i get to have knife throwing chances alot.

Play knife on Realistic, because knife's got no recoil and you've got to act quickly when you see someone or you're dead, as if you play in non Realistic you've got the chance to over calculate.
Play by instinct.

Time spent in !Elite S&S has given me a crash course in knifing. From what I've learned, it's all about timing and leading your target, at least if you're throwing. Stabbing someone's only good if you've snuck up behind them in realistic; there's no way in hell you'll get close when they can see you. It's inevitably a "last stand" weapon, but a damned good one at that.

Acutally, a HUGE secret to the knife, is move the OPPOSITE way you throw. It flys faster and farther, hits harder too. Move left when you throw right. fly up when you toss down.  You get alot more power and distance that way. Trust me, test it out one day.

Eh thats just an illusion you get because you are traveling away from the knife so it looks like it goes faster and further.

I used to be quite the knifer before you had to charge it. Since then i've not played Soldat that much, or tried to get back used to it. I loved that knife, we were playing with MM on this radio chat show, and I knifed him twice. In a row. Within a second. That made me laugh, but I think that was what made him put the charge on.. Because it was after that he put it on. He smiled, but i know what he thought.
