Aah yes, that's what I was thinking when I read Thinkto urself's post.

Is that all Thinkto urself's work or is it copy pasted from some emo site/suicide cult?

Meh, the halo thing only, thought it was cute :P. Never saw men in black, wtf is it about?

Damn it Mangled, do you have to display your blatant hatred of religion everywhere? It's usually completely off-topic and very unnecessary. You might have a valid reasoning for bringing it up in this topic, but I don't see any of the other atheists in this thread babbling on about how religious people are retards. Go start a thread about why religion is apparently the worst evil in mankind's existence rather than bringing it to virtually almost every single place where it seems to be related, and randomly at that.

I don't hate religion... Okay actually I do. But I like Buddhists... they make me feel all warm and fuzzy :D

I always make it relevant to the topic either that or slip it into my posts in the fisting zone.

Freedom of speech? No?

Well I'm actually very intellectually superior and therefore I think and speak/type at the same time.

It saves me having to sit on my butt for 10 minutes prior twiddling my thumbs and staring at the ceiling waiting for some sort of epiphany to hit me before I can even begin typing.

Also I just give my honest opinion instead of trying to kiss as much arse as possible so that people don't flame me.

BAHAHAHAHAH HE FUCKING TOOK THAT TINY PARAGRAPH OUT OF HALO!!!!.

So THAT'S how to avoid the profanity filter...

--Don't do it

1. Almost all religions 'teach' their followers that there is an afterlife, and so their followers take this life and this planet for granted because they are under the belief that there is an eternal paradise waiting for them.

Yes, but almost all religions also teach their followers that the way to get to that afterlife is through good deeds.

2. Some religions (namely Christianity and Islam) teach their followers that "everything is Gods will" and so people feel that what is happening to the world is supposed to happen or that they have no choice in what will happen.

I don't know about Islam, but I can assure you that Christians don't believe that everything is God's will.

3. There are even some religious figures (particularly in American Christianity) who tell everybody that Global Warming isn't real and that people shouldn't "inconvenience" themselves with trying to preserve the planet when it's all ready being preserved by God.

Yeah, but they suck.

4. There are prominent Doomsday cults all over the world who believe that they are supposed to enforce an apocalyptic prophecy and are preparing, as you read this, to try and end the world because they believe that is their purpose. Needless to say that on Dec 21 2012 you are going to want to stay as far away from these people as possible. Imagine if they had access to nuclear weaponry.

Note the use of the word "cult."  Most religions don't feel this way.

We fail to keep our environment un-altered, whats the best thing that Humanity has done for nature? Absolutely nothing, oh sure, they know about global warming now, but what do you think caused global warming?
Global warming has been around longer then humanity, The amount of Co2 gases we cause isn't nearly enough to alter the temperature out of all the greenhouse emissions we make up something like 3.5 % of all co2 emissions.

You fail.

Yes, we are parasites... we are as bad as that flood stuff in halo... we are the species we fight in every single movie about some "first encounter"... but not only do we do that... we care about it just as much as those species do... not at all....

seriously... is any one of us willing to kill themself, just to make sure earth will survive? Nobody cares about saving the world... Most people care about saving mankind though... We want to preserve our planet, so our children can still use it...

Think of it as a bowl of soup. I choose not to eat it all, because I don't want my girlfriend, sitting on the other side of the table, to starve to death. So we share... It's not like I save some soup because I want the soup to stay like it is.

ask around...
"what if earth explodes tomorrow?" - Oh my god that would suck
"what if earth explodes 300 years from now?" - Who cares? we'll be dead by then...

Yes, we are parasites... but as good parasites... we don't care... we just hope we can find another living world to exploit before this one dies and takes us with it.

Nice of you to generalize on that. I'm not one of those nut-jobs who lives in a shed and collects dream catchers and thinks that Area 51 has alien spacecraft stored in the hangers and thinks that crop circles are anything other than man made.

I believe a conspiracy theory because I see a lot more evidence supporting it rather than contradicting it. Just the same way as I see a lot more evidence supporting evolution and the big bang theory and the anthropic principal.

;_; sorry Dascoo.

"what if earth explodes 300 years from now?" - Who cares? we'll be dead by then...

I'll play devil's advocate here for a moment.  Can you give me a good, logical reason why we should care about the future of the world?  By this I mean can you justify caring about what will happen after you die without using emotion or "humanity" as an explanation? Why is it bad to be a parasite?

Humanity is a failure.
There is no purpose for our existence.

You ALMOST sounded deep there, but then you had to go and contradict yourself.  If existence has no purpose, how can you fail at it?

Date Posted: February 12, 2008, 10:37:49 am
I believe a conspiracy theory because I see a lot more evidence supporting it rather than contradicting it.

Orly? I thought it was because you ignored the evidence contradicting it while looking for evidence that supports it.

I guess if you ignore enough facts then that could happen.
