Soldat Pit
« on: February 18, 2008, 02:03:34 pm »
Works only with Soldat 1.4.2!

Soldat Pit is a quite different Soldat mod, it has a couple of new features that, as far as I know, have never been seen in any Soldat mod.
  • Classes
Okay, you might say that there's nothing new about classes, we have them it Tactical Trenchwars. But TTW has a little inconvenient class selection system and it only works on trenchwars, not on regular CTF or INF. However Soldat Pit works with any game mode and has a nice weapons selection interface:

  • Totally different weapons
Most of the mods try to keep weapons similar to Soldat. Soldat Pit introduces such classes as Artillery, equipped with a rocket launcher, or Bowman, wielding a crossbow. Also, the sniper rifle, unlike Soldat's Barrett, doesn't have startup time, and minigun is actually useful!
  • New sounds
Not all of the sounds have been changed, but the most noticeable change is for reloading sounds and /victory command. Almost every class has a different voice response when reloading.
Most of the sounds are taken from Team Fortress 2.
  • Other changes
New graphics for weapons, some of the text in game is also changed.
Offensive classes
HotshotHotshot wields two Desert Eagles which is a great close or medium range weapon.
PyroPyro has a flamethrower and this class is the best at close range.
SoldierSoldier wields a submachine gun and he's good at medium and long range combat.
ArtilleryThis guy has a rocket launcher on his shoulders. There's nothing else to say about him.
ScoutScout doesn't have a weapon (only a secondary one). But he can boost his speed and change moving direction in air. This makes him the best flag runner in the whole team. Scout is really quick which makes him really hard to hit.
Defensive classes
BowmanBowman's good at long range combat, however his rate of fire is too slow to attack effectively. This is why he is better at defending.
DemomanHe can shoot regular grenades that do not explode when they hit the ground. This makes Demoman a good defender as he can plant "mines" to protect a narrow route for a few seconds. Also, he can bounce his grenades around to kill enemies he cannot see.
SniperThe perfect defender. Noticeable change is removal of startup time.
MedicMedic has a medigun which can heal and even boost his teammates' health. But he has to be really careful as he can accidentally heal his enemies.
HeavyThis guy has a Minigun. Not the same Minigun from Soldat, it's actually pretty useful now. Heavy is a great defender who can prevent enemies to pass narrow entrances.

Also, keep in mind that this mod is only for Realistic mode with friendly fire on!

And a special thanks to Lord Frunkamunch, -Skykanden- and SoldatHost! ;D

Well, the mod is actually inspired by TF2 and some sounds are taken from the game. As you can see, some of the SP classes are very similar to TF2 classes (Pyro, Demoman, Heavy, etc).

Hey, I really like this idea. Basically labeling the classes to be very specific, therefore creating pretty different jobs so that jobs will be sorta needed in certain places I guess. ;D. Yea, playing in realistic mode would seem necessary. Awsum. I will definitely use this mod.

Is there a server up for this? This gets my approval ;). Why's this called Soldat Pit?

Edit:

Well, it isn't that great with bots, but I could imagine it to be pretty fun online/lan :P.

This is a very interesting and thoughtful mod... I'm going to try it out!  :o

Edit: This is a really good mod, very well thought out indeed.. there should really be a server set up for it.

Well done  :D

I like the weapon icons.  They are just a bit too...disjointed.  I would like if they were unified a bit more by a central theme.  why the change from red to blue?

Red/Blue denotes Offensive weapon versus Defensive...

there should really be a server set up for it.
Well, I'd like to have a server too, however I don't have a computer that would run 24/7, also I don't have a credit card to rent a dedicated server. Maybe somebody would host it for free? ::) But I don't get my hopes too high.

Why's this called Soldat Pit?
Why not? ;D I though the word "pit" would express the chaotic and amusing side of this mod :)

<3 I would use this mod occasionally, except when I was testing the ini, and I reloaded the "mp5" replacement, I heard the most annoying sound of my life. But anyways, could you make a version without the, "talkative" reload sounds? Anyways, interesting ini on the grenade launcher, have to give you that  :). The medic gun is quite useless, unless you have friendly fire on, otherwise, it only heals enemies.

I don't really know, because these "talkative" reloading sounds are a big part of the mod. And are they really that annoying? I thought that in time players will get used and don't even mind them :-\

That's what the mod is supposed to be, Realistic with friendly fire on.

Well, it's supposed to be played online, because bots just can't play as a Medic or Scout. However, I'm not able to set up a dedicated server, unless I start it on my computer.

If you can spare a few bob (money, you fools), run a server with U13 or EneSce. Even if you only run the server for a month or two. :)

Sexy, I like.
To sum up my point: We had a multipage debate about toilet padding. (Putting TP in the water so you don't get splashed.)
And we still don't know if dead guys can keep a stiffy.
