XPS M1730 = mine ;)
« on: February 22, 2008, 11:08:31 am »
Just ordered my new laptop :)
It's damn big but it will at least do all I want it to do. Now i just have to wait like 2 weeks before it comes but it's on its way.

I picked windows XP for it instead of Vista as I do not find it that much better...or better at all. I wanted to have 2,8 GHz but I needed to add $700 and I didn't have that much ;/
It will mostly be used for gaming but I will also have it when I work in 3D as the computers at my school suck so hard.

some of the specs:
Intel® Core™ 2 Duo-processorer T7700 (2,40 GHz, 800 MHz FSB, 4 MB L2-cache)
Windows XP Pro Eng
17-tums UltraSharpâ„¢ WUXGA (1920x1200) TFTbuilt in 2,0 MP webcam
4 096 MB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM-minne med dubbla kanaler [2x2048]
400 GB (7 200 v/min) SATA RAID 0-skiktning (2x200 GB)
DUAL SLI 512MB NVIDIA® GeForce® 8800GTX card
Ageia PhysX-processorkort
Fast 8x DVD+/-RW

XPS has overheating issues.
I worked for a guy who has one of the first XPSs out. (2 years old?) It can't hold a charge without being plugged into the will either.

Ageia PhysX-processorkort
They forced you to buy it didn't they?

Fast 8x DVD+/-RW
Outdated. 16x is the current speed.

XPS M1730 sounds like some kind of gun.

How dare you disrespect Windows eXPerience!

Good choice, even though you made it for the wrong reason. Vista is a big flaming pile of turd and everybody knows it.

There is a difference between this XPS and the older two versions. I've read reviews where an overclocked @ 3,2GHz isn't even overheating and that they've done a goodjob on that area. The battery life sucks, around 1h on maxed screen brightness. I will use the computer instead of the crappy ones here in school for my work.

There was no option for B-Ray and why spend money on things that are out dated.

I have vista on my desktop computer. Even if it's better in some areas I just can't stand the extra useage of the ram...dunno why .heh...just waiting for Windows 7 :P

That things pretty beastly.  i just got myself an Inspiron 1525 (using it now, as a matter of fact)  I love this baby.  It's slim and sexy and unlike the XPS behemoths, it's pretty damn portable.  Not macbook air portable, but I like having an optical drive.  It's gonna be my uni comp, so it should last.

ahh yes, that makes sense, because everyone and everything is totally compatible with Blueray and nobody uses that stone age DVD crap anymore. so buying an "outdated" dvd player would be ridiculous, so go ahead and get the most obsolete model you can find.

I hardly think 8x dvd is "obsolete."  And what he's saying makes sense.  Why spend the money now on something that he will probably upgrade in the future, when the performance difference for his needs is probably negligible?  Unless he really NEEDS to rip/burn his dvds 2.4 times faster, it's smarter for him to save his money for a future B-ray optical drive, which probably soon will make dvd seem like "stone age crap"

We will have to see how long it will take blueray to overtake dvds in terms of compatibility.
