Helmets/hats protect from headshots?
« on: March 03, 2008, 04:30:39 pm »
Is it true? That's what I've heard from from other people and I wanted to know if it would give some sort of advantage over others. Also, sometimes helmets fall off after getting shot in the head.

Helmet falling off is normal. Also, find whoever told you that and smack 'em.
To sum up my point: We had a multipage debate about toilet padding. (Putting TP in the water so you don't get splashed.)
And we still don't know if dead guys can keep a stiffy.

If they did protect you, there would be a lot more people wearing them wouldn't there?

Rule of Combat:

.50 vs kevlar helmet

.50 wins

In real life helmets do not protect totally from bullets, they are generally meant to protect you from shrapnel and debris, though helmets can in some instances stop bullets or ricochet them away instead of them passing through. It generally depends on the velocity and caliber of the bullet.

For instance... if you're going to get shot in the head with a 9mm pistol then a helmet will probably stop the bullet. If you're going to get shot with a .50 BMG depleted uranium bullet then no helmet is going to stop it.

In Soldat helmets are purely a useless accessory... much like dogtags they give no advantage.

In Soldat - no, in real - yes (no if you have 'em in rubber covers)

Modern PASGT kevlar helmet (fritz) can stop 9mm bullet from 10m but 5.56 goes throught it and yes, it should protect soldier from shrapnels, explosion wave and shock wave.

i tested with a helment....
a head with helment vs 1 pistol shot = little damage...
a head without helment vs 1 pistol shot = a bit more...
so i still stick to the helment....

The damage done by a shot varies, so unless you tested several shots hitting the same exact spot with  similar distances/velocities, then you are wrong.

It is pointless anyway, as helmets make no difference.

Lol. Nice testing, it proves that people will see everything they want to see.

Helmets do nothing. If they will, everyone will use them -_-'
