Deleting own posts.
« on: March 08, 2008, 06:47:01 pm »
Well, I was thinking. Isn't there a way to make posts (not replies) you made deletable. What I mean is sometimes you by a mistake post it in wrong section or some other reason, and you want ot delete it. We could also make it so that when someone replies to the post then u can't delete it.

we can't let people just delete what could later be evidence.

Then we can also set it so that if there ever was a link or attachment in it, you can't delete it either.

Maybe something like a trashbin, where threads stay for a certain amount of time, before they are deleted?

I made a test topic in the testing area. I got the button, but I got "cannot delete topics in this forum section" or something.

Does that apply to any forum section then, or just certain ones?

It isn't just the evidence reason.

A lot of people for some reason think "Oh, any topic that has a question that has been answered should be locked/removed since they have served their purpose"

we want to keep the forums open and keep the threads around as a knowledgebase.  There aren't all that many threads that need to be deleted, the moderators can handle that just fine.  If you really need one of your own threads deleted, report a reply to it and say "please delete this thread" or PM a moderator.

Because SMF doesn't have an option for that, only the old Snitz board did.  That was just about the only good feature that piece of crap had

I'll take this board over that board any day.

Bash pit wasn't any good either. My guess is it was something like the Fisting Zone but way worse.

And FLAB, I understand what you talking about but... I'll bring a topic that really is unnecessary.

I think it is necessary to have.  Users should have more power over their own posts.  But to make sure it isn't over-done, it could have a time limit like with the Karma feature.  You can only delete one topic a day or something like that.

Also there should be thing that you can't delete topic if it have ~10 posts 'n' more.
