May I ask if it is possible that it is also due to ping?If I went into a zombie server with high ping, the zombies seem to be able to saw me from a distance. If it were low ping, I wouldn't get hit yet.
(Sorry if I am unintelligent, since the knowledge I have only comes from a school text book...)

Also, does it relay on the sawers, or your connection? Because for hit registry, it's most likely to be yours when you're shooting, so in this case it'd be the sawer, no?
The saw works like a gun, but the projectiles are invisible and disappear after a meter or so. Over the last few versions, in order to make it more effective, the bullet speed of the saw has been modified: but this way the saw graphics don't 'cover' the area of doom. This means that your saw is actually an inch longer than the weapon you hold in your hand. Weird bollocks. (:
It is the common occurance of the lack of hit registry integrated into the saw, combined with lag, which induces the sawer to appear farther then the actual position he/she is at. Thus, it appears that they were able to chainsaw you from a distance.
