You could start by updating the rules so that they're clearer -- and by sticking the most important rules in the thread title. For example, the title in the
CTF/INF Maps and
DM/HTF/Other Maps subsections would be "Rules: maps must have a download link, an overview, and a proper title (read for more)." While those three rules would be at the top of a numerical list such as:
Each submitted map must have the following:
- A download link including the map and all non-default sceneries, textures, and edges used (either use the forum uploader by clicking on Additional Options below the textbox or upload to some other file hosting site such as Laughing Llama's or m00net)
- An overview of the entire map (use the PrintScreen button on your keyboard to copy what you currently see to your clipboard then edit and upload the file)
- A proper title (Capture the Flag maps must be preceded by ctf_, Deathmatch maps...)
- Credit where credit is due -- if you borrowed anyone's scenery, textures, ideas, or let someone waypoint your map, let everyone know who gave you what (willingly or not).
When critiquing a map, be descriptive and constructive -- help new mappers figure out how to map, help veteran mappers improve. Most importantly, point out any bugs you might find.
That should be all you need, but you can add anything that you have to correct frequently. Although, instead of parentheses to describe how to upload, create an overview, etc., you may want to use the anchor tag to link to a more descriptive part of the page.
Hope that helps. At the very least, it'll be better than g_d's monstrosity of a post (which has broken links and old code in it, by the way) and more informative than Chakra's paltry "these are the bare essentials" post (though you may want to steal some of his stuff).
