This will be happening tonight, view the last post in this thread for more information

I've gotta put this off until I have a less-busy weekend.  I'll post at least a few days before it happens.

Hey everyone,

As another part of my testing with IPv6, the Soldat Forums will be accessible over IPv4 and IPv6 on 03/22/2008 starting at midnight (EST).  I'll run it for the entire day, unless it somehow breaks the forums for a lot of people.  If it does that, I'll turn it back to IPv4-only as soon as I hear of problems.  I don't anticipate their being any large problems, if any.

I'll post here with any changes/updates and answer any questions.

edit:
Q: How do I contact you in the event that I can't get onto the forums at that time
A: If anyone has any problems getting on here, e-mail admin@forums.soldat.pl and tell me the time that you could not access the forums, what browser and OS you are using, and what exactly happened when you tried to get here.

whoops, I forgot to get around to it this weekend.  I'll do it this Saturday, March 29th

Not to put any pressure on you, mate, but if you ruin the forums for me, I will kill myself.

Other than that, it'll be exciting to check it out.
I fucking miss all you cunts!

If people cannot access the forums for some reason there is really no way for them to contact you (or any other admin) Perhaps there should be something set up for people to complain to? Or at least make an effort to have people standing by on IRC or something?

There is nothing more dangerous then a small American child who cannot access his video game (forums).

Not to put any pressure on you, mate, but if you ruin the forums for me, I will kill myself.

Point and case

How are you going to make it IPv6 compatible? By asking your datacenter to assign it a static IPv6 IP and changing some config files around?

the datacenter doesn't offer native IPv6 connectivity, but I've got a IPv6 tunnel with pretty awesome performance from http://tunnelbroker.net that I'm using to test this stuff out.

The server is already set up quite nicely with ipv6, I just don't have AAAA records on for any of the soldat-related sites.  Some of my other sites (a lot of them) do have it though, including u13.net and lot of others.

I will be enabling IPv6 for the forums tonight, assuming I don't forget when I get home.  Please report any problems you have connecting to admin@forums.soldat.pl

The forums will be back to IPv4 only around the same time tomorrow night, but sooner if people start encountering major issues.

From what i can tell, this means that more people can access these fourms in IPv6 and there will be records for this as well - yet i'm still not sure exactly the point of this. What exactly is this for?

The world is steadily running out of available IPV4 IP addresses, IPV6 supports many many more possible IP addresses than IPV4. Once IPV4 is phased out, these site will still exist due to the IPV6 functionality, I guess the sooner it is compliant with IPV6 the better. Who wants to procrastinate anyway? Plus, the IPV6 address system might have new features, I'm not sure, though.
