Imperial vs Metric
« on: July 19, 2006, 12:33:14 pm »
Correct if me I'm wrong, but doesn't the whole world use metric, except for the USA (imperial)?  Why?  Why does the US have to be different than everyone else?

Metres own, but they're hard to get used to if your brain has been flooded with imperial bullshit.

I've lived in USA for 4 years now and still haven't learned imperial, and because they don't use it, i forgot metric system. So now I'm "systemless".

16 ounces to a pound, 14 pounds to a stone, 160 stones to a ton. What's hard to remember about that?

Cause the US wants to be different and they want the metric system to be easy to understand. Am I right?

1000 grams to a KILOgram. 1000 kilograms to a ton.
Prefer that so easy. Imperial is just screwed up. I bet you I can find a stone which weighs more than 14 pounds. Or a pound coin which weighs less the a pound.
Yeah, UK uses imperial as well. I talk to my friends using metric, they use imperial. None of us have a clue what the other means :D

UK gets confused, like me. I measure short distances in metric (centimetres, metres), long distances in imperial (miles), small weights in imperial (stones) and large weights in metric (tons).

I'd like to make the move to metric because its immensely easier, but hell, I'm old fashioned.

I go by that too, although I can use the alternate measurements if needed.

lol..was only joking anyhow.

But in all seriousness, I don't even see a distinction between the two...3.28 feet to a meter, conversions conversions conversions.

Guess it's just common place now..
