« on: March 24, 2008, 09:16:15 pm »
I'm not sure why but I'm really getting into sad - ish songs. Here are some of my current favs:

Smashing Pumpkins - Crestfallen
Garbage - Only Happy When it Rains
Metallica - Fade to Black
Guns N' Roses - Don't Cry
Ozzy Osbourne - You're no Different
Tori Amos - Crucify

What are yours? Have any suggestions?
There are other worlds than these

Yea, I'm a fan of this music.
Namely "Rootless Tree" by Damien Rice. As well as Guns N Roses, Metallica (Nothing Else Matters) and others. Nothing wrong this it though :)
Just another soul to burn.

Bone Collector a Damien Rice fan? Sweet.

Myself I believe the art of a sad song was perfected by the man called Bazan from Pedro the Lion.

Pedro the Lion - Never Leave A Job Half Done

Pedro the Lion - Priests and Paramedics

Pedro The Lion - Second Best

pedro the lion - The Poison

I don't really see this song as depressing but n2j3 thought it was:

Joe Christmas - Scrabble Girl

Again not depressing to me but I can see how some would be depressed by it:

Damien Jurado - Ohio

Zao - Ravage Ritual:
Freaking depressing from a Christian view.

Johnny Cash - Ballad of Ira Hayes

Ben Folds - Still Fightin' It

Rootless Tree !WARNING SWEARING!
The forums swear filter is totally going to ruin this, but meh:

ROOTLESS TREE
What I want from you is empty your head
But they say be true, don't stay in your bed
We do what we need to be free
And it leans on me like a rootless tree

What I want from us is learn to let go
But we fade the forests, fracture the tide
We go blind when we needed to see
And it leans on me, like a rootless...

So fuck you, fuck you, fuck you
And all you didn't do
I said bleed it, bleed it, bleed it
There's nothing in you
And do you hate me, hate me, hate me, hate me so much
That you can't let me out, let me out, let me out
Of hell when you're around
Let me out, let me out, let me out
Hell when you're around
Let me out, let me out, let me out

What I want from this
Is to learn to let go
No not of you
Of all that's been told
Killers re-invent and believe
And it leans on me, like a rootless...

So fuck you, fuck you, fuck you
And all you didn't do
I said leave it, leave it, leave it
It's nothin anyway
And did you hate me, hate me, hate me, hate me so much
That you can't let me out, let me out, let me out...
It's hell when you're around...

So fuck you, fuck you, fuck you
And all we've been through
I said leave it, leave it, leave it
It's nothing anyway
And do you hate me, hate me, hate me, hate me so much
That you can't let me out, let me out, let me out...
Hell when you're around...
Let me out, let me out, let me out, let me out..
Just another soul to burn.

I forgot that One Gram has an amazing taste in music. Priests and Paramedics is the first thing I think of when I hear "sad song".

Usually, when I want sad music, I'll listen to a band thats sadder, instead of an individual song.
Ex:
Dust Collector
Femme Fatality
Flagante Delicto
The Blood Brothers
More, those last two were bad-ish examples.

Sorry, I have to scoff at what people consider depressing here. This is a song I sing to myself, translated from Yiddish.

Dona Dona

1. On a wagon bound for market
There's a calf with a mournful eye.
High above him there's a swallow
Winging swiftly through the sky.

How the winds are laughing
They laugh with all their might
Laugh and laugh the whole day through
And half the summer's night.

Dona dona dona dona
Dona dona dona down
Dona dona dona dona
Dona dona dona don

2. "Stop complaining," said the farmer
"Who told you a calf to be;
Why don't you have wings to fly away
Like the swallow so proud and free?"

3. Calves are easily bound and slaughtered
Never knowing the reason why.
But whoever treasures freedom,
Like the swallow must learn to fly
Everything you have done in life is measured by the DASH on your gravestone.
Stop wasting time.
Make your dash count.

Hans Zimmer - Black Howk Down:

Vale of plenty

Leave no man behind

Still reprise

Ashes to ashes

Gortoz a ran - J'Attends.

Music with some arabic vocal but sad as hell, mainly when I recall the movie.

I like sad songs, but not those totally depressed ones.

Good examples for "sad" songs are

Breaking Benjamin - Here we Are
Breaking Benjamin - Evil Angel
Breaking Benjamin - Rain (a little)

Rammstein - Stirb nicht vor mir
Rammstein - Ein Lied
Rammstein - Nebel
"Everyone who casts a shadow seems to stand in the sun" ~Wolfsheim

Try listening to Joy Division's album Closer without slitting your wrists.

What he said.

A particular melancholic song I like is Deftones - Change (In The House Of Flies)
