ctf_avocado -- Layout help
« on: March 25, 2008, 12:57:28 pm »
I made another CTF map, a snow-themed map with the colors inspired by my DM map, Blice. So before releasing this map, I want you to take a look at the screenshot and tell me what needs fixin'.

For size comparision, the map is zoomed out 22%.

the background and the colour of the polygons should not match because it tires the eyes and is too bland.
The map itself is completely mirrored and too long and draggy- like a snail.
Never ever use icicles.bmp in any map.
the red and blue things in the ground don't fit the map theme.
Basically this needs a lot of scenery experience, mostly because it is hard as hell to find fitting scenery for snow/ice maps, but using icicles.bmp is just bad.
When polygons float in mid-air without supports it looks misleading (love the word).
anything else?

I think the top platform near the bases would be somewhat useless.  Since the platform below it provides quick routes and can easily be accessed.  The top platform tends to have the opening facing at an angle.  This makes it hard to enter it and makes players refuse to use it.  I would just add polygons over the entire thing and shade it in accordingly.  Since it'll be never be used and since this seems like a fairly large map, it can really give snipers a fun time.  If you're willing to keep it, adjust the opening to a similar style in ctf_Steel with the top route.
