Hold the Flag
« on: March 27, 2008, 04:11:00 pm »
It needs to be (re)vived. Not revived because it never lived. Why did HTF never impact? It's a good gamemode and it's a lot of fun to play... ...against bots. Nobody ever plays it, but why? Seriousely?

Do this forums still have that htf server? If so, set up matches there, let's try to get some life into this stillborn child!

Yeah, that's also why it's so much fun.

There's many reasons to why Hold the Flag never received the potential it should have.  First off, the idea of that you have to "hold" a flag, seems boring to certain players.  There's plenty of other gamemodes or the gamemode itself isn't appealing.  Many players want chaotic-like gameplay.  Besides Deathmatch, Hold the Flag really provides this.

Honestly, Hold the Flag is actually my favorite gamemode, and really want it seem to become popular.  It was a failure at launch.  With horrible maps portraying it like htf_Mare and htf_Futura.  However, over time new maps have birthed like htf_Superpants and htf_Muck that really shows how fun it can be.  But realistically, I doubt it will ever be one of the popular gamemodes like CTF or DM.  It'll lay in the box along with the other gamemodes like PM or RM.

If anyone is willing to have a round of HTF at the forum server, I'll be more than happy to be there.

I had a HTF server running for a while and it was super fun... people will play it. Just no one has the servers for it.

There was an HTF gather not too long ago. I played a couple, and it was really fun. It allows for alot more teamwork than other modes.

I guess HTF is in the same boat as R/S. When Leo's died, regulars were all "I quit". Maybe it just needs good dedicated servers running the best maps. I know I find the game type fun. Besides, playing CTF and Infiltration is great and all, but after 5 years you don't mind trying something new.

Did I ever state that your map is horrible?

That server is down.  It's been down for quite a while.

I went there yesterday and it was on-line.

Fucking hell, it does work.  IP should be u13.net, not forums.soldat.pl

HTF is my favourite mode.

I think the best way to revive it is a new feature in soldat.
Sometimes you want to enter a server and nobody there.

A great idea if soldat minimized program could show a simple message in windows to tell me that another player has joined the server.
Meanwhile I simply would do www.

when fracs gather was alive, there were regular HTF gathers being played.
Sna or other gather channels just need to take the initiative to get a server going.

Not... At all... There are more R/S servers than just Leo's, they aren't R/S/A servers.

...Yyyyeah, coming back to this thread I realize just how much I failed at communication and clarification. What I meant was HTF probably needs something like Leo's was to a lot of people; a good, dedicated server where regulars gather, knowing they can get a game there. A favorite.

I'm not sure what I was thinking. I'm gonna go eat a cookie.
