I bet few weeks after 1.5 is released, there will be huge bunch of animated porn maps :D But .GIF scenery is really good thing, they would be really useful in climb maps.

Was someone able to contact Anna and encourage her to add .gif support to Polyworks yet? Because without this, the new feature is basically not useable.

Isn't Polyworks FOSS?

Just remember what ol' Jack Burton does when the earth quakes, the poison arrows fall from the sky, and the pillars of Heaven shake.  Yeah, Jack Burton just looks that big old storm right in the eye and says, "Give me your best shot. I can take it."

yes, but there are no strong VB developers who have taken up the project yet

yes, this is a feature I've been hoping would be added for a while.  I'll talk to the devs about it for a future version.  Since so many people are now buying laptops and desktops with widescreen displays, this is really becoming necessary

Omg? You can't programate multiplatform? :/...
Soldat is a large application, and the only person who currently knows all of the game code well is MM.  In order to make Soldat cross-platform, the entire game would have to be rewritten.

Wine is making good progress on supporting Soldat.  It is up to the Wine devs to support Soldat better, and it is up to the Soldat community to vote for Wine and report bugs for Soldat's support in Wine.

Read this post for more information: http://tns.u13.net/?p=45

If you want Linux, BSD, or Macs to run Soldat better in Wine-based emulation (including Parallels on Mac), then do what that post says and test/report on Soldat frequently on the AppDB page for Soldat: http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=7794

If you don't help contribute to the input that the project managers/devs on Wine use to figure out what to work on, then you shouldn't complain about the lack of Wine support for Soldat.

Thanks for the info!  Shouldn't this info be in a FAQ somewhere? :)

I'll be trying it out on Ubuntu Gutsy before too long.

I'd recommend skipping right to Ubuntu Hardy, even if you are trying it out before that version is out.

I'll try to find somewhere good to put that information

The 1.5.0 beta will be out "soon," best described as "when it is ready"

There is no definite time.

Well I don't care if it's released in one year or so but I don't like it when ppl use "soon" and it turns out to be 2+ months.

I do know though how the 1.5 is but bots are no fun so for now I'll stick to 1.4.2.

How about demo's, Do old demo's work in 1.5? and more importantly, are the problems with bullet rendering fixed?
Will be Soldat 1.5.0 operate with OpenGL for Linux? :)
No to both
There was 3 questions  ::)

I've got an idea about Teamspeak.. what about this:
Server admin could "attach" a TS2-server address to their soldat server,
so you would automatically join that TS2-server as soon as you join the Soldat-server.
Would be awesome for public and/or gathers :)

if not, im sure a server that wanted to do this would put it into the Server Message, or an advertisement script

my english sucks, anyway:

ts, irc = megafail. soldat should be soldat, without any 3rd party components / useless stuff. mm made similar fail when he embedded mp3 player. imagine these massive slowdowns when your ts/irc servers will crash.
ignore above whine if there will be some way to completely disable both ts and irc, make soldat not connecting to them even a bit, etc.

now gifs are real fail (no excuses) because of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apng and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mng . of course gif should be implemented but it's era of transparent pngs in soldat, if you add gifs add also some animation format including semi-transparency, like apng or mng mentioned above, or whatever.

ctrl+v and ActionSnap = win!

it would be really nice if you'd add some server commands for controlling the map, like DeletePolygon, AddPolygon, GetPolygonStat, RemoveScenery, AddScenery, GetSceneryStat etc.
and it wouldn't be bad if maps could have their own scripts just like server. users with wrong maps just get 'wrong map version', so it could apply to map scripts too. and a little hax-check: if only script part is wrong - ban user. i don't know if it is possible to implement, to make server and client-side map script interact well and so on - but for sure it would be great.
