So tell me, do any of you guys play chess?

I do, my class started chess club 4 months ago and I'm getting the hang of it.  I bought this book on Chess Notation, and whenever I'm at home with no one to play with I go on the computer, and play.

I'm sure some of our soldat forumers play chess.

I've played since I'm...10 or something. Always enjoyed it, always been more or less good at it. I still play once a week or so.

I used to play chess all the time in elementary, never did any chess club bullsh*t or anything but i played it in my spare time, especially when we had 'freetime'.

As of now i havent played chess in probably 4-5 years.

My brother never plays with me anymore. I always start out by putting one pawn 1 square forward, and the next 2 squares, and so on. He hates it and quits if he see me do it.

I lose to anyone else, though. I always plan a ton of moves ahead on elaborate strategies, putting myself in my opponents shoes and asking myself what they do, and make what I always think at the time is the perfect move. Then I realize that I wasn't paying enough attention to something perfectly obvious that I couldn't possibly have missed if I'd taken a single good look at the board, usually directly after the opponent takes advantage of my absentmindedness.

I learned in elementary school, we had a single elimination tournament in class. And I came in 2nd cuz I made a wrong move just after the game started. For a while I would only play vs my grandparents. Then I thought my ex to play and its quite fun playing a game of chess in bed.

My math teacher in the fifth grade taught me that, it's easily avoidable.  Ironic though, I recently got a game from the Chessmaster series for my PSP.  Quite nice.

My friends hold chess games at the end of history class every other day.  I seldom play a couple of matches, but a majority of the time, I just watch.

That strategy is a terrible one.  It's easily counterable, and it doesn't open up enough opportunities right away.  That's why people tend to open with the king's pawn, since it immediately opens up paths for your queen and bishop, which makes it easier to castle (which is also good, as it protects your king and gets your rook going).

There's a four move play that beats the chess game I have everytime, not a wise strategy when playing against a human opponent though. Could someone write out the three move play?
