Computer Help -- Can't Remove A Program
« on: July 20, 2006, 04:14:14 pm »
I seem to have a program on my computer, the trouble is that I have no idea what it is, where it came from, or even how large it is.  But I do know that it's Version 1.1.  HALLELUJAH!

Soooo...when I try to remove it, I get the most descriptive error message I've ever seen...it just happens to be in a language that doesn't exist.

Anybody know how I can get rid of it?

I use to get that with some games that were not in english where they used a different character set.  You might have deleted the program without uninstalling it properly.  Just search for a guide on how to remove programs from the add remove list.

Run CCleaner to scan for issues. If it's still there, think of what you've installed recently.

Run a virus scan in Spybot Search and Destroy, and then when you're sure it's not a virus, just go ahead and remove it from the install list with CCleaner, and rescan for issues. Hope that helps you out.

If you don't know what CCleaner is, google it.

CCleaner didn't help, but it sure cleaned out my system all nice.  I haven't run that thing for ages.  It's also not a virus, I know that -- it's some asian game that I have yet to find.

On the plus side, all this work has gotten me spurred on to clean up my computer, so yay to you.

Well..it isnt Chinese or Japanese what i can see.

And try this. Remove the folder if it is a.

How much space does it take?
What does it do?
Does it harm you computer?

Answer these first then use the thing below.

This might work or not...

Press Start>Run>Regedit

Then click on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.  Then click on SOFTWARE. If you find the folder delete it.
Then click on HKET_CURRENT_USER. Then click software and delete the strange folder again.

Then try to uninstall again.

Sometimes this wont work:(

I don't know if I'm ready to mess around with my registry...especially when my computer seems to be fine otherwise.

Isn't that what fonts look like if you do not have the proper IME and language support? Because when I got my new computer, the Asian language support hadn't been installed, and any file names because retarded like that, if I remember correctly, which I probably do not.

If your computer seems to be fine, maybe you should just leave it, especially if you do not want to harm your computer. Of course, you should do what feels right to you. If that made any sense.

Say a fly lands on your computer monitor while you're playing video games, wanking, whatever...and you don't really want to be bothered to get rid of it, but it's still annoying to you.  Are you going to get up, find a shoe, and smash the thing, potentially spreading bug juice all over your computer, or are you just going to say "F*ck it, it's not doing me any harm" and leave it?

But then what if someone comes up and says, "You know you can just swat at it and it'll bugger off, right?"  Why that person is in your room while you're wanking, I don't know -- that's your business.  The point is that if there's an easier solution, I'd rather take that, but if I'm only offered one that has the potential to turn into a real nuisance, I'd just as soon pretend that the problem isn't there.

Since I'm pretending it's not there for the moment, it's fixed.  Why, do you have some other way to get rid of it?  Because it's still bugging the sh*t out of me.

Hahaaa, I love you.  For solving my entirely nonexistant problem.

I tried uninstalling it with this program, but got that same damn (but incredibly informative) error message.  So I took a screenshot to rub it in your face and pasted it in Photoshop, but then I saw that this uninstaller has a Command line thing that tells you exactly where all the files are.

It is an asian game, one that I happen to have already deleted.  So here's my next question: if I delete the files I saw in that command line, will the problem go away, or do I still have to do that registry thing?
