GrindHouse

For those who don't know what I mean, search for the movies Death Proof and Planet Terror.
When I first heard about this movie... I got excited. When I saw reviews of it online (Aussie doesn't get the releases at the same time as you U.S guys do), I got excited.
The first time I'd actually thought this would kick-ass, was when I heard that two awesome directors Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarintino would be working together on this release. I've been fans of both directors, famous for Desperado, Once Apon A Time In Mexico, Sky Kids (Rodriguez) and Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill Volume 1 and 2 (Tarintino)... And I expected this to be pretty cool.

Gram, you like zombie movies... so Planet Terror would appeal to you. The storyline was pretty good... and the old effect that Rodiguez wanted (the Grindhouse effect) came off pretty well. Although, I expected much more from Rodriguez... being a fan of the El Mariachi movies. Unfortunately, I was pretty disapointed at the layout of the movie... with the exception of the gore through-out. I reccommend it if you liked (or still like) going to those dusty old movie theaters and watch the old 70's grindhouse movies, or even if you like Indie movies.

Death Proof, on the other hand... was pretty good. Cars, women, and cars.... Reminds me of the old 70's and 80's car movies (kinda like Smoky and the bandit, amonst others... like vanishing point). The funny thing is... was this movie was meant to make you think back to those movies. At first, Quentin made you get to love the characters (or not... depending on who's watching)... and then kills them off. Kurt Russell kinda freaked me out in this movie... which he was supposed to. The cars were really nice, but the storyline was a little slow...

To be honest, I liked Death Proof more... as at least it kept me interested. I hope to see better movies from these two in the future.

He produced it, but didn't direct it. If I remember rightly Eli Roth did. Along with The Protector, and a few episodes of CSI.
I've never watched hostel, though I imagine it would be good.

The more I watch Quentin's movies the more I wonder why people let him make movies at all. Death Proof was a slap in the face to everyone. It was like a joke he played on us. "How long can I hold an audience with boring/crappy dialog and annoying characters? To hell with it lets give it a terrible ending as well!"

Death Proof was great though.. its only flaw was Quentin... surprised?

I've seen Death Proof, and i love it, so i watched it again.
I havnt seen Planet Terror thought..and i think i want. Seems like "28 weeks later" movie, with boring endless killing.

Quentin's movies arn't that bad though, and neither are Rober Rodriguez. These movies were supposed to give the effect of those cheap-ass movies that you see at the dusty old theaters. Which works wonders for them in this release.
Thanks for the replies...

I loved both of the movies. I'm a big fan of Tarantino's movies. I preferred Death Proof over Planet Terror.

And it's Spy Kids, not Sky Kids.

I completely agree, the girl-talk bullbollocks that you have to sit through for what seems like hours is not worth the 1 minute of satisfying action and the second part ended horribly. I'm assuming by "Death Proof was great though.. its only flaw was Quentin... surprised?" you meant Planet Terror, and if so I agree again.

I heard nothing but good things about the grind house films. However, I never bothered to watch them. I think its because they where advertising them as those cheap gore/sex films in cheap theaters. That doesn't attract me at all.
