I decided to post a topic about our clan since we haven't had a site for a long time and there isn't any place where people can currently read and learn about our clan, plus maybe some people are actually interested about our clan! I have been in AlterEgo for three years now and even though I used to play with my friends in another clan before AE/, I'd have to say it's the first real competitive Soldat clan I have been in, and possibly the last one too. If you'd like to know more about us, read this topic or join us on our channel #alterego, and remember that we are always willing to play against anyone who wants to challenge us in a match! :D

ABOUT US

AlterEgo is one of the oldest active Soldat clans in the whole community. Our clan is Finnish only, and while we are a competitive clan and aim for victory in different leagues, the most important thing is for us is to have an enjoyable clan where all the players enjoy their time, as we are all friends and we believe that if a clan wants to stay alive, it's good for all the members to come along to avoid any internal conflicts. We believe in good sportsmanship, fair play and just want to show good attitude, hoping everyone will enjoy playing against us.

This is of course completely subjective, but if I were to try and explain the way we play the game, I'd say that teamplay is our best weapon. Of course this applies to every good clan out there, but we have some unique tactics and a seemingly spontaneous way to adapt to different situations. We have our tricks and like to play the way we do, and it's always fun when one of your tactics work out!

AWARDS

AlterEgo is also one of the most succesful Soldat clans, having won and placed well in many leagues and tournaments. At the moment of writing, our best year has been 2006, when we won The Next League's top division twice in a row, and were runner-ups in both SCTFL8 and SCTFL9, and were eventually voted to be the best clan of 2006 on TNL forums.

We didn't do quite as well in 2007, losing against LP in SCTFL10 semi-finals and against R7 in SCTFL11 quarter-finals, but we'll keep trying and maybe one day we'll win SCTFL, though the competition is always tough. :) There was no TNL in 2007 but Finland's National Soldat Team did quite well in Soldat World Cup 2, losing against Czech Republic in one of the closest finals the community has seen. Finland's National Team is obviously not the same as our clan AlterEgo, but the team had many of our players.

List of awards:
  • Clan of the Year 2006
  • TNL-A 4: Winner
  • TNL-A 5: Winner
  • SaD Cup 2: Winner
  • SaD Cup 5: Winner
  • TPC 1: Winner
  • TPC 6: Runner-up
  • Black & White tournament: Winner
  • SCTFL 6: EU Division Runner-up
  • SCTFL 8: Runner-up
  • SCTFL 9: Runner-up
  • Playoff positions in various other leagues and tournaments.

HISTORY

A bit of history is needed too, right? AlterEgo was formed in early 2003 by three Finnish players, Fawkes, Kornelius and Presenter. At that time AlterEgo wasn't solely for Finnish players and players joined from all over Europe, though the clan wasn't that active in its first year, because there were considerably less clans than there are now, and matches were usually scheduled so it took more effort to get one going on.

AlterEgo became Finnish only in late 2003 when Niik joined the clan, being the first Finnish member barring the leaders. 2004 brought a new wave of players into AE with Robin Huud, GreenHero, Zuup and Predikt joining the ranks. The new year also brought some troubles as the clan was close to dying once due to inactivity and players leaving but with Fawkes getting some of the lost players back, the clan survived through its only real peril and eventually won The Pwnage Cup 1 and SaD Tournament 2 during the same year.

A bit before 2005, Kouleman and Jonih joined AE after MN (another well known clan at the time) died, and the clan was doing well until Robin Huud and GreenHero decided to quit Soldat in spring 2005. The clan went through some other major changes in 2005 as well, when DragonSlayer joined the clan in April 2005. AlterEgo had been doing quite well in the current Soldat Capture the Flag season, and we had a good start in the playoffs and beat Soldat Veterans in the quarter-finals. Around this time ramirez, DragonSlayer's brother, joined the clan and AlterEgo's current lineup started to form. We also beat Mossad in SCTFL6's semi-finals but lost against Shadow Warriors in the finals of European division.

Fawkes's army started in summer 2005 which left AlterEgo without a leader, but democracy has always worked out really well in our clan so this didn't become a problem. Around this time we started to count our victories and losses, and the clan became more active and succesful than ever. Matches were played daily, new tactics were developed and the clan started to become more well known. We won the season's SaD tournament, made it to the SCTFL playoffs and were fighting for TNL-B victory (the toughest division of the season) but had to settle for third position in the final two weeks of the season, but third season was good enough for us to get promoted to TNL-A. 2005 also saw the birth of the feared ctf_Equinox line-up and it became AlterEgo's trademark map.

We were eagerly waiting for 2006 and even though Jonih had decided to quit Soldat in late 2005, we had a strong line-up with Bablo, Flare and atzo strengthening AE's line-up during 2006. It was a good year for us, we won TNL-A 4 and 5, placed second in SCTFL8 and SCTFL9 and were eventually voted to be the best clan of 2006 in a public vote on TNL forums. GreenHero and Robin Huud, who had returned to Soldat, decided to join back to AlterEgo in late 2006 after their other clan, Ad Absurdum, split in two and eventually died.

2007 was a bit more quiet year with no TNL running and SCTFL10 taking a long time to begin, and when it did begin, we still couldn't get our first SCTFL victory as we lost against The Legacy of Poontage in the semi-finals. Soon after, a period of inactivity started with Kouleman, DragonSlayer, ramirez and GreenHero joining the army, and Predikt leaving the clan sometime in summer 2007. Before this, there was no real need for new players in AE as most of the current players were active, liked the clan's atmosphere and players, plus we had developed certain tactics and line-ups for almost all the maps and liked to keep the clan reasonably sized. But with four active players joining the army, AE needed some new players and Hawkah, Wietriel and Quill were recruited during this time. Wietriel and Quill didn't stay for long, and Hawkah still remains in the clan. DragonSlayer came back in time for SCTFL11, and despite still being in the service, ramirez was able to take part in the season as well. Once again, we made it to the playoffs but this time lost in the quarter-finals and it was our worst SCTFL season since SCTFL7. Flare also quit AlterEgo a bit before SCTFL11 started but returned before the season was over.

Kouleman came back from the army in January 2008 and it was Huudi's turn to serve the country. Ymies joined AE in early 2008 after deciding to leave his old clan, Storm and Destroy and a bit later ramirez returned from the army as well. Even though 2006 has been our best year so far, I think that we have become more versatile than we were then. We are better at certain maps, have more players and good line-ups and don't need to depend on a certain map or player anymore. Hopefully we'll do well in 2008 and it's going to be another challenging year!

--------

There, hopefully you guys found this at least somewhat interesting! I can seriously recommend joining a clan and actively playing clan wars to anyone who enjoys playing Soldat, as it's a lot of fun and will improve you as a player. You can find new friends and play a lot of challenging matches, and it can be a whole lot different from what it feels like to play on publics.

Aye, I didn't write about him leaving in the history because I don't remember too well when he left. There were times when he'd be inactive for long periods of time or even leave temporarily (without joining other clans) and then one time he left the clan but I don't remember when, so for now history has no mention of that.

Well that was a decent read, good to gain a better understanding of such a successful soldat clan. 5 years is certainly a very long time.

One of the few clans it's actually fun to lose against, as you are always fair and never flame. Plus most of your lineups have years of experience of playing together and one can see that!

We had first official AE/ meet this week and here's a pic of our members! Unfortunately not everyone could be at the meet, but here's 6 of our integral, active members.

Most of us have known each other for like 3 years, so it wasn't really awkward or anything.

I met a couple people from soldat but none of whom were in my clan. Actually this Friday, both me and Valuemeal are both going to the same Iron Maiden concert, so R7 might once again reunite kinda.

It's good to see that you guys met up. One of the clans I look up to even to this day, and hopefully one day you'll get your victory in SCTFL.
