New job
« on: April 27, 2008, 11:31:20 am »
http://www.izea.com/

So, they interviewed me on Wednesday and hired me on the spot. The final offer was 2k more than I asked for. And I don't even have a college degree yet (I will in august). I'll be making a good chunk of money. Possibly more then your parents make. Then there is the bonuses, benefits and stock options. (good shit, right?)  I can afford all those toys I have been drooling over the past few months.

I really don't have to go into much detail about the company, its all on the website.
http://www.rockstartup.com/ - will give you a good idea of the work environment. Stay tuned and there is a good chance you'll see me on there.

They give me a budget I get to pick out my computer/software I want to use. I told them I am gonna work on Ubuntu and they where totally cool about it. It was like pulling teeth to get a ubuntu computer at my last job.

My job title is "Code Ninja". Looks like I will be working with mostly Python, some Ruby.

So what do you think of Izea?

Will you still be doing .Net stuff? If not, do you think you'll miss it?

I probably will do it in my spare time. I love compiled languages and really don't like interpreted languages like python, ruby and php.

His usage of "Python" isn't referring to the snake, it's a programming languge.

thank you for that enlighting remark, how could i guess it's not literaly about ninjas and pythons.

bja, i'm anxious to know how much will you be making. by the way you write about it, it sounds like you're gonna be holding a platinum unlimited card in a year, but then again it sounds just like a desk job.
so how about it? how much?

Hey, where and what are you studying right now? (career advice)

I'm not sure I understand what you wanna know. My college degree has nothing to do with my new job. In fact, it is a crappy little A.S. from a community college. I got the job for my personality and skills.

So what do you think of Izea?
What do they sell?

Advertising. I like to think of them as the Google of blogging.

so how about it? how much?

I don't mind tellen' ya. In fact its impressive I am making this much considering my education, experience and age. However i don't think it is something I should go around talking about on a public forum. I'll pm it to you as long as you don't post it.

Who the hell blogs? And who reads blogs? And doesn't google do advertisement for everyone?

If you are the guy making the "Punch bush in the face and win a free ipod" Banners I will kill you.

No banners, consumer based advertising.

Well, you pretty much answered it. I was wondering what kind of an education would get you what kind of a job. Do you think you could PM me your salary?

and here's a fake edit since you just posted a range. (good enough for me)

lmfao, dude - you're a programmer, not a nuclear reactor spy, and you aren't making millions. what reason have you got to keep it quiet?

i'm 21, no degree currently, i own 3 hotdog 'booths' outside my city's three leading clubs, i pay 40$ a night to the kids that work in each booth selling the hotdogs, and the hotdogs i get for 1/10 of the price since i've made a deal with the (certain) meat company importer that he'll get 15% of the profit each week. every night each booth makes about 800-1000$ .
and that's my night "job", in the mornings i'm an SX (energy drink) shipment driver.. well used to be since i got my license revoked.

my parents (well my mom, my dad passed away) makes alot more than i do. about 10 times more.

no degree, no programming skills, no office job.
only a few months of building the booths, good reputation, and connections with the clubs' owners.

you do the math and tell me if you're making more than me or my parents, but you don't see me making a thread about it OR acting like the paycheck is some pentagon classefied secret.

seriously dude, that's the 2nd thread in which you adore yourself in. the last one was about your quotes. i'm serious dude, got nothing against you but get a grip.

Slash is living the american dream, making money off of the work of others!

And I'm not even sure he lives in the US.

Well to work at Google I heard you need a bachelors. Thats a completely different path.
There is not usually a lot of work like this out there. You gotta be lucky that you come across that kind of job to begin with. It's all about who you know.

@Slashnoob
Entry level programmers (what I should be considered) make less than half of what I am making.

seriously dude, that's the 2nd thread in which you adore yourself in. the last one was about your quotes. i'm serious dude, got nothing against you but get a grip.
Your the one who turned this into a conversation about money mate.

just wanted to see how true was that line since it was cocky.
fact remains that you adored yourself again in the original post of the thread.

That made me laugh.

Still, good luck with the new line of work.  Something tells me you may find having the bachelors or more under your belt will get you farther than personality, etc. in the long run.  Not to say that the latter isn't a key element though.
With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams it is
still a beautiful world.  Strive to be happy.

I know you/your parents make more than I do geo. I'm talking at the bulk of the people here, not the special cases.

FFS, can we get back to Izea.

I guess I am a special case too!

Also those beginner programmers are near slaves.

80k is a pretty good beginners pay when you have next to no relevant education. Good for you.
But like slashnoob/superkill said, the main post was really, really cocky when you said how much you made.
