Cheating
« on: April 30, 2008, 08:30:19 am »
Personally, I like cheating in little non-multiplayer games like tower defence with unlimited money. And unlimited ammo in campaign FPS games. And slow motion attached to silly buttons. The list is endless. Which is also why I like sandbox games.

Do you cheat in such games, what type and why?

I never cheat. It's too damn easy when you cheat. No challenge, no fun. Exception is when I get really stuck or somehow lost saves, I use chats then to save my time - I never liked completing same levels more than one time.

Yeah I do. If the game doesn't have enough checkpoints/savepoints.

I used to cheat, a lot, sometimes I would check out the cheat codes and the trainers before even launching the game. As I grew older, I realised that there's much more fun in the game if it's challanging, and it's been fun ever since!

Only after I've already beaten the game and want new experiences to keep the game fun.
Or if I've already beaten the game and want to cheat my way through a ridiculously hard new difficulty level, a la God of War on Godlike with the infinite mana glitch. Which by the way is a pain to activate.

You didn't realy have to put that into small text.

I'll cheat if i'm not playing online, or if i'm stuck on some area that realy pisses me off.

I bought a game to beat it, not to get stuck at some retarded point where you have to crawl through a hidden space or something which you would have never found.

Much more rewarding to beat a game without cheats. Especially if its a hard game to beat.

I won't cheat on an online game, but I'll cheat on a reg. I've never had this "rewarding" feeling from a video game, to me its about having fun, and if it requires me zooming around at Mach 10 on GTA I'll do it.

I used to cheat when I was younger but I haven't done that in years. I don't find it fun and I like a challenge. Might be because Baldur's Gate 2 taught me not to give up so easily(some of the fights were really hard and took some time to find good strategies).

In singleplayer games I never use cheats in order to beat the game. But I do like to mess about with cheats in games (example: spawning a tank in GTA and then doing on a rampage in it, but I won't save after doing this)

In multiplayer games I have never and will never cheat because I'm a man of integrity, honour and honesty.

I usually have a cheat file and a "clean" file on most games. Get the best of both. A lot of times I do use walkthroughs, hints, etc. to get the really good equipment, secret stuff, etc. But usually only after I beat it.

Walkthroughs and hints aren't really cheating because there is no code input or things to give you an advantage other than knowledge. You still have to overcome whatever obstacles are in your way on your own via skill.

I only blatantly cheat in GTA or other shooting games (Max Payne 2, Medal of Honor, etc) to do things I couldn't normally do or just become the superhuman uber pwnz0r man. However, I will try to beat the game once through before using cheats.

Cheating in multiplayer on the other hand is a crime against the internet. As if we didn't have enough of those already...

I only use cheat after I beat the game. I mean, what's the point of buying and playing the game if you're going to just use cheat to play?

Cheating is bad, except when they are built-in backdoors like the commands that StarCraft/BW have in singleplayer

I don't cheat in games besides games like Oblivion. Even with those I don't do outright cheats until I beat alot/all of it, just get mods/use bugs that improve the game where it was lacking(Like the stupid leveled loot in Oblivion). Other than that I do use walkthroughs for some games. I never trusted cheats for online games so I never used them for one. Plus I don't feel like getting banned from every server I play in. I have been accused of speed hacking in Ultima Online by a GM... that was kinda strange.

I second that. Cheats only when you want to have some fun with bots or whatever you play against with. Plus i have never cheated playing online.

That isn't what we're talking about.  I don't think any of his examples (except maybe one) involved things built into the game
