How to watch better quality YouTube vids :D

This is so cool.  I just found it.  If you are watching a yotube video, you can increase the quality by adding: &fmt=18 to the end of the URL of the vid.  Here is an example of how much the quality is increased by.





It makes for great viewing in fullscreen (providing the movie is already at an average quality level)

I knew this ages ago... All it does is play the version of the video that the user uploaded rather than play the compressed video that youtube creates from it.

The higher quality one takes longer to stream and may have an undesirable framerate if you're using an old pc.

Still youtube wasn't built for high quality I believe. It was just a place to dump home videos and rehashed jokes. Not a place for Hi def trailers and the like.

Youtube was the first of its kind. Their goal was to create a way for people all around the world to share videos without having to worry about various browsers / codecs / etc which might be obstacles. They succeeded by taking advantage of Macromedia's (now Adobe's) Flash Player. At the time they didn't care too much about video quality, they just wanted their goal to be accomplished.

The other sites people in this thread mentioned are just youtube clones.

Actually I believe break.com preceeded youtube by about 7 years or so. =)

I prefere whatching live broadcasts. Maybe because my computer screen is a modified TV.
But thanks for showing that theres high quality on youtube. I never noticed.
