Many noobs use it as their first gun and don't 'progress' up the chain to harder-to-use guns, or more 'tactical' guns. If they do try and use an auto (which requires a lot of practise to be efficient) they will find that they are getting owned and switch back to M79, or go to Barret, another 1 hit kill weapon.Good point, thats why m79 / Barret should be fixed

Grenades - Need to be nerfed
Minimi overpowered
M79 - Weak or Balanced?

I rush a lot and I always end up killed because well..because my dps is so much lower than a m79s.Let me guess, you probably use autos or more accurately, either a MP5 or a Spas?

M79 is quite balanced, although it should be able to shoot homing missiles at anybody who says 'm79 noob' :/ Seriously, if you treat it like barrett or ruger, and charge at the M79'er, it's obvious it's easy to kill you. Treat it like a saw or spas, keep away from the user and try to dodge the bullets, and you should be fine.
It's balanced. As an ALT route player, I've pretty much "mastered" the m79 to some degree. The weakness that veteran players have found in players like me is that distance is the key, so grab a Steyr or AK, and you're ready to go. Also, spraying with a Steyr is VERY effective, since the recoil slows me down and it hurts me. That seems to be an auto's greatest advantage over the m79. So you kids need to learn not to rush so damn much and use tactics. How do I know? Rushers die 85% of the time, the 15% they learn to not rush and by the posts above mine seems like they are rushers 24/7.

Steyr wont rush because he know that he's going to get killed, m79 could choose to not rush and basically freezes the route, or to attack and push the other guy back.So unless m79 makes a stupid mistake or reinforcement comes(which is unlikely, since 1 route will be open, and people dont do that), the route is secured and basically depending on how m79 play's his hand, he's in command of the route.
