I have given you advices, make your maps better or don't make them at all.

Hello Maunokki, welcome to the Soldat Forums mapping community. Please excuse some of our less civilized members, recently, there haven't been many mods here to keep them in check.

This is nice for your first dm map. The layout needs work, but you've definitely got potential. Just because there are some dicks here, it doesn;t mean you should be discouraged. You definately have scenery down pretty well, the only real advice I can give there is to work on variety and technique using varying layers and opacity.

Sadly, yet forgiveably, as this is your first attempt at dm, the layout, and to a much lesser extent, poly structure leave a bit to be desired. You should examine default maps, and see how the mappers design the layout to enhance gameplay by making it faster and more smooth. You should also look at the structure, to make sure there aren't polybugs, and that the player can move across them smoothly. You should also in the future work on using more colors, and smoother visual elements, but thats just me being nitpicky.

Also, remember to pack all teh nescessary sceneries and texture along with the map for users who don't have them. You can find programs to do this in the fan apps section.

Edit: And Now to talk some sense in to you bunch of idiots.

Vin: Seriously, shut up. You've done nothing but insult his map, with out providing any constructive advice, you're also the instagator of all the conflict here, because you came and flamed his map, and when people call you out, you flame them.

You also, for some unimagineable reason, think that you're some god of mapping. Not that I'm at all interested in your maps, because I'm inferring that all you do is make mediocre kz maps, which are made even more mediocre by that fact that they are kz maps. Regardless, even if they're some of the best maps ever made, it doesn;t give you the right to place yourself above other mappers. If you deserve to be, let the community. But you clearly don't, as just about everyone who's posted here has essentially told you to shut up.

You also didn't have a great cause to insult Braden's map. He was quite curt with his statement, it was only because you essentially provoked a good deal of the mapping community with you warrantless flaming, and your insolent remarks.

i.e.
Quote
Someone with higher status, an admin on the server he plays on, a way better mapper and climber than he is and I'm not as childish as they both are.

Though Vin isn't alone, the lot fo you are being incredibly immature about this whole thing. If Vin is so set on being a troll, just don't bother with him. Just talk about the map and disregard what he says. I'm sure everyone here would rather see maunokki become a great mapper, then they would feed Vin's ego with the negative attention he craves.

The only people who've been truely reasonable about this have been Blacksheepboy, Geologist, and maunokki.

Thats all I have to say for now.

@Geologist: We were trying to help him for a year, but he hasn't improved.
My first comments were a constructive critism, but then he told his brother to register and give a positive comment, which would make people to like this map.

@Maunokki: I haven't gave you enough critism in this thread? I'm always giving you some support but you seem to be too dumb to get that, I'll state the things clearly for your 10 year old mind from now:

-The only sceneries you have used are veg_ and fx_ ones
-The light comes out rocks, it should have some source like lamps or something
-The polygons float in the air, you should put some col sceneries under them or rope ones over them.
-Two teams have got really big disadvantage, you just spam nades into their spawn and get 2+ kills instantly
-The polystructure sucks, that's why the shading looks crappy
-The texture is overused
-The bottom is overstretched/overaligned
-The spray blockers make it hard to move on the map
-There are too many tiny passages, you can get stuck
-Put the Properties window on the screenshot or copypaste the map info from mappacker if you use it ofcourse.
-Pick a name for the map when you finish it if you don't have inspiration

Was that clear? I hope so.
You call that nothing constructive?
Your post was the longest, the most boring post in this thread, which has given him.. what? You think you made him more confident? Everything constructive has been said allready, you repeat tips which we have given before.
Oh yeah, ofcourse you're the uber mapper, the mapping god etc so noone will post against you and you'll have one argument against me more.
Seriously, I don't care if you warn me, if you hate or love me.
We were trying to help him for over a year, you think your post will change ANYTHING?
Well, good luck, seriously.
Your post was pointless, you just wanted to prove that your better than anyone here and make me feel worse(?). You failed.

Phosphorescent rocks exist and they can give off a glow, but not a glow strong enough to actually light up some parts of the platform.

For some reason, this map reminds me of a huge (and failed) DM map I made a long time ago (keyword walla walla). Visually, it isn't too shabby, and it should look a little lighter when in-game. Yes, as Geo had said, there are too many paths and several dead-ends where a player could get easily cornered. DM maps is mainly about flowing layout, in a generally circular manner if a player was to go all the way around a map.

But since this is your first DM map, I'm gonna say this is a good work well done.

First off @maunokki, if you need anyhelp with your future mapping, feel free to PM me and I'll gladly answer questions and give further specific advice. (That also applys for about the entire mapping community. I love to help out.)

And now,  hold on, let me take that all in and reply piece by piece.

You call that nothing constructive?

Actually I call it a list of flaws. It's not constructive because it offers no advice for improving, or solutions to the problems.

Actually, if you had read my post through, youd see, that I, unlike the other posters was kind enough to offer advice along with my comments on the map. By giving him advice, he can use it to further his mapping prowess.

First, I can't warn you. And the way I see it, if you were posting like you did here to "help" him, it probably didn't really help.

Wait, so, my post was pointless, next to all your posts that aren't aimed at the map or the mapper. And I never said I was better than anyone, nor did I want to make you feel worse. (although I didn;t realize that berating someone's map makes you feel bad)

Okay.  After scrutinizingly testing this map for quite some time, here is my verdict:

Average.  It's not great; it's not bad, especially not as horrendous as ViN implicates; it's just average.
Since this map has received enough criticism, I'll just write my opinions in the form of a simple pros/cons list.

Pros[/u]
-Decent shading
-Variety of scenery
-Nice atmosphere

Cons[/u]
-Veg sceneries do not fit the polygons well, especially with that fundamental shading.
-Layout has too many subsections, thus the flow is disrupted
-Polybugs galore
-Texture is severely overstretched
-A bit too blocky
-Remember to pack your maps along with the necessary sceneries and texture for players who do not have any of those.

If you really want to improve this map:
-Fix the texture
-Make the structures rounder
-Get rid of the subsection farthest to the right
-Get rid of the underground caves on the bottom
-Actually, lemme just redline this (see attachment).

Quote
-The polygons float in the air, you should put some col sceneries under them or rope ones over them.
Not every structure has to have some sort of support.  It would help the aesthetics a bit I suppose, but I just think it's not necessary.

Quote
Possibly a bit too many rooms/passages for a smooth flowing DM map, but overall a good first try I think.  Keep 'em coming.
Agreed.

That's some real criticism right there.

Yeah, I admit it, I can't win against a soldat beta tester.
I'll just watch him improve.
Hint: Don't use so advanced english, he didin't understand your advices.

And yes Wraith-like, your post was very wordy and elaborate. Actually though, wordiness is what I aspire to, so I find nothing wrong with it.

ViN, I was neutral towards you a long while, but constantly bashing a mapper won't do any good. Don't post here in this thread if you can't stand to see him map. You obviously aren't letting up, and that's pretty jerk-like if you don't mind me saying.
