I personally think that the background gives the picture a stronger feel. It's like, without the background, it looks a lil' plain.

Yes, the first attachment is better. The second one has a white background which doesn't suit the forums. First one has a slightly thicker background, the third one slightly thinner, that's the only minor difference right?

Good effort for all who made the avatars.

I agree with you there (sorry Hair). I think so far, Mr. Snow's first one is the best, the blur is noticeable but not too dark.
