Trenchwar bunkers...
« on: May 30, 2008, 07:44:45 pm »
Yes, I have obviously run into something that is holding me back from finishing my Trenchwar maps.

The general terrain im fine with, and the distance/spacing of the bunkers is fine aswell, but when it come to actually constructing the bunkers, I happen to have trouble, any help?

I dont know much bout maps.. but when I see a bunker I want it to be an efficient hiding place.  The best ones are stable ones, usually they are actual parts of the terrain, like the ones in Tw_Rage (<33).   You should define what your having trouble with more

Find a decent dirt colored background, and use colliders to mark the entrance, there is only two ways out, left and right, and make sure you use a different color for it, like grey as opposed to a brown or green poly surrounding it.

W00t stop being stupid...

Its me V... and Im not a map making noob... I just happen to have trouble with the design of the bunkers... never said anything about colors or colliders.... Design as in the physical shape of them.... not what they look like. Look like as color and sceneries.

I'll work on the bunkers some more, but I am definately trying hard to not steal designs from other maps.
Like how the crecent middle bunker is, I like that shape, yet its hard to recreate in my own way. Another thing is the thickness of the walls. So I really just need some people to post examples and such so that I can gather how to create said bunkers.

well thickness of the walls is about the same in all bunkers in all maps.. I really like crecent's bunkers too, the first and middle at least.
just come up with something better than the average GH midbunker.. weve seen too many of those.
you can also make a verdun-like bunker, with some tunnels. really cool :o

edit: some unknown tw maps have awesome bunkers too.
try tw_newnature by sonsukka and tw_cliff by me america
awesome-o

Well, since bunkers that are mirrored are totally analyzable and easier to clear, i'd go with something new,  the shapes should be rounded but still very much so block like with large polys, but you know all that, I think maybe three entrances and two exits is good. And I agree with bombski about cliffs, try to make the lower camping spots like they did, and you will be a mapping GENIUS. :p
