It was his avatar.

After removing it, the page load times went from 25 seconds to around 1

or at least, for me.

Ok, sounds like something was wrong with their server or DNS and it timed out at 24 or 25 seconds, which was holding the rest of the pageload up (which is why everyone who had it loading slow showed 25.x seconds, more than a coincidence)
