Soldat FPS Tool
« on: June 13, 2008, 10:21:42 am »
This small application can get your FPS higher. For some computers is FPS locked only at 100 frames per second, even if they have good performance. This program is only Flash animation inside exe file."Why some flash animation can get my FPS higher?" I don`t know how, but it can.For me it works very good, when I start some program with Flash animation my FPS is increased from 100 to 230.

Download: http://www.plunder.com/Soldat-FPS-Tool-download-140382.htm

Another tips how to get better FPS.
If you are playing on fullscreen and your FPS isn`t good You can try this:
You can get better Soldat graphic with this too.
(Deactivate fullscreen and set screen size in the green box to 100/99 (or less) and save settings.)

That's interesting. Maybe it gets your fps higher by forcing the video card to have at least the frame rate of the animation, which could be very high. Higher than typical Soldat performance.

I'll have to take a look at this when I get a chance.

I think this has been posted before, but I didn't try it. I don't have a problem with FPS. I may check this out.

That's insane. I get 100 fps now, instead of my usual 30-40. :O

Huh. Well, that is really interesting. I don't have much of a prob with FPS unless something starts running in the background like boll***s windows updates. So, I'll try it too to see what it looks like. :) GJ

It doesn't increase your FPS at all...  the program is useless.
This problem has been solved on these forums few times ago by Dephile. So I can tell you that When you opening that flash animation it shows the framerate of that flash animation even though you're playing Soldat. Ofcourse, the flash movie requires way less computer power than Soldat does, so the FPS of that flash animation is way higher.

For example: Try to open the old mapmaker. It always shows 999fps. When I open Soldat and show my FPS, it is at 999 too.

Well, it's running but where is a shortcut for it so I can exit and start it up again?

And it diddn't make much differnece, my fps stays at 60-70 when running on my laptop.  I'll try it on my other comp later.

Yes, that's it. Someone posted a webpage flash animation a while ago and said it would increase FPS.

Worked well for me, boosted me about 5 FPS. I assume the impact it has on the FPS depends on computer speed(and my computer REALLY sucks).

1. This tool seems to work for me.

2. The same effect can be had by playing *certain* mp3 files in the soldat internal mp3 player.
I only noticed this because some of my playlist will force my framerate to be limited to 60fps ... whereas other playlists will "lift" that limit so that I have my normal 200-300-400 depending on the map etc.

and yes, it is a noticeable difference, because whenever it is limited to 60fps, I can see small jitters and stuff. So the guy who said "soldat displays the framrate of the animation" is wrong, imo.

either this kid has a lightbulb up his butt, or his colon has a great idea.

This does not actually improve your FPS. It only makes the ingame FPS counter display the FPS of the FLASH movie, not Soldat.

This isn't really increasing your frame rate. It's just Soldat detecting the frame rate of the flash in the background.

And to add, the fps cant be bigger than the refresh rate of your monitor (least the fps shown to you) while the fps the computer makes is independent.

I haven't tried this fps tool.

But I'd like to break some misconceptions about fps.

I have two monitors.

1: a lcd that has a 60hz refresh rate. And that has ghosting and lag. ( inherent to the lcd technology)

2: An old crt that I use for soldat. It run it in 640x480@120hz

I made some experiment with my crt screen.
And I can confirm there is a huge difference between playing at 60hz or at 120hz.
So much that I kept this screen only for playing soldat.

I really wonder why so much people claim that the human brain can't notice framerates over 60hz.  :-\  That's so wrong!

Second thing: if you play in windowed mode instead of full screen.
It will bypass the v-synch.
So as soon as a frame is generated by your computer it will display on your monitor.
(That's what cause the image tearing effect)
Your monitor will begin render the frame even if it hasn't finished rendering the last one.

That's why even if your monitor is limited at 60hz refresh rate, it still makes sense to have your computer generate more than 60fps.

The more fps, the less delay between what happens and what you actually see.

Thank you for reading.

unrelated but commenting:

afaik, its just about 60 Hz is where you (a human) stops noticing individual frames; anything higher makes it have a better "transition" i guess from frame to frame (although you dont see in frames :P), so it becomes smoother. (im not a reliable source, so don't quote me :P)

I don't know if this application actually helps, but i tried it once and hardly noticed a difference (if any) (that was a long time ago).

There is two possibilities here:

1: I'm not human. I'm in fact a cyborg with bionic eyes coming from the future.

2: Your statement is wrong and the human brain can notice individual frames above 60hz

Still not convinced?
In this case I propose a simple test:

Plug a crt monitor: set the refresh rate to 60hz.

=> Notice the heavy flickering.

Test2: Now play soldat on that screen.
Begin at 60hz and work you way up to your max refresh rate.

=> Notice the increasing fluidity. Pay attention to the bullets. The difference is significant.
