Opera > Firefox.
Definitely not as of FF3. Besides, what the feck is the point of posting your opinion without any backing evidence whatsoever?

I downloaded Firefox 3 a few hours ago, like many others. Since then I've been spending my time finding a way to revert the so-called "awesome bar" to its predecessor's behavior, since I absolutely hate the way the new "intelligent search algorithm" works. It's ineffective, unintuitive and to top it off very slow. I know that there are many users that raise this feature to the heavens and claim it to be the best feature of FF3, but as for myself, I can't stand it. Typing a single "s" into the location bar (which was in FF2 a quick way for me to access several Soldat related websites) now gives me the excellent suggestion of visiting www.google.se, because of the single S in the TLD. To quote the feature list, "results are returned according to their a combination of frequency, and recency of visits to that page". I doubt I can somehow visit, say, this very site more than my localized Google site. And I tend to remember website URL:s more so than the actual titles as well - in FF2 typing "forums.soldat.pl", to take the obvious example, would neatly list the most recent paged I had viewed here. I could go on and point out more things that bother me about it, but I just can't be arsed.

But thanks to what seems to be sheer arrogance from the Mozilla Developers they didn't even bother giving the user the choice of simply having the auto-completion work the FF2 way. (I remember seeing a quote from the devs saying that they would not add this either, and that users would get used to it eventually and realize it's so much better. Thank you very much, but I think I know myself what I prefer.) Yes, there are certain ways to slightly tweak the algorithm, and to make it less obtrusive or even hide it altogether. But should adding an option to revert it back to the FF2 behavior really be such a big thing, considering the other 14,999 improvements they've done to FF3? Opera has the same feature, but you can actually turn it off.

If there is a way to get my precious URL bar back ye olde style, then do tell. I most certainly haven't found one. If there isn't, then I might as well go back to FF2 or switch to Opera. (Which for the record is a very nice browser. It displays pages, and stuff.)

I always thought that was the point of opinions... it's not supposed to be a true or false statement, is it ?
As if "definitely not as of FF3" is backed by any evidence.

Because you probably cannot do the same.

The new "intelligent" address bar was poorly copied from Opera. Why poorly? Because Firefox can search for matchng words only in titles of the visited pages. In many cases this is not useful. The original intelligent address bar in Opera is much more powerful - it indexes whole pages which means you can type *any* word that you have seen on a page and all pages with this word will show up in the addres bar. Also Opera can show more results at the same time, so you don't have to scroll the list all the time.

But don't get me wrong, Firefox 3.0 is a solid browser. Just not as good as Opera.

I never liked any autocomplete/intellegent bar

Mostly I just hate every single fucking bookmark showing up while I'm typing

There's a plugin to change it to the old bar. I for one actually like it, though. It helps me if I forget the exact name of the page, without having to google it.

firefox 3 was mentioned on colbert report today. epic win, it was like:

Guest: Well you know, a person on the wrong website with the wrong browser can mean the end.
Colbert: So what would be the right browser?
Guest: Well I heard that Firefox 3 was released today actually.
Colbert: Firefox just got the Colbert bump.
