Modifing the gravity
« on: June 14, 2008, 05:01:52 pm »
Y HALO THAR.
I though, wouldn't that be cool if the custom maps were even more custom?
I mean, features like ladders that you can climb on, moonwalks, diving, elevators, portals.
Wouldn't that be an awesome thing to enchance the game?
And yeah, it'd be all possible if you could change the default gravity on points X,Y, using scripting.
I know that many people will say no, but that could get EVERY custom gamemode on a new level.
Imagine a race map located in a spaceship with 0 gravity.
Or getting blown by wind between two zeppelins in the Trench wars.
or climbing up/down a ladder so you don't have to use jets and give out your position to the enemies in the realistic mode.
I think that'd be awesome, eC said that he wanted to experiment with the gravity in 1.5, those are just few suggestions that could make the experiments change the custom game modes for better.
Discuss.

New map features: weapon spawns, animated graphics in maps, power-ups, improvements in bot-behavior/waypoints, etc. (Marcinkowski himself declared that just about any suggestions regarding new map features will be ignored unless he specifically announces that the map format shall be changed, which he most likely shall not anymore due to the time-absorbing Link-Dead project)
^^

However, I do like the idea of variable gravity, and it doesnt seem to difficult from a programmers standpoint.

We should just be able to edit the gravity, as in high gravity/low gravity.

You could bounce from the ceilings using layered polys, whatever their type is, they bounce you anyway.

He was referring to my question about how it would be possible to bounce off of a ceiling.
How many maps do we have that are bouncy on the roof?

Logically, a good admin would think about that ahead of time and only use maps in a zero-g server that had bouncy ceilings.

I think zero gravity would be great fun for a M79 and Barrett only server.

Can't you edit this in a scrpit?

I think it would be better if you could set the gravity on a point(X,Y), you could set the range of the gravity change and it's strenght.
