Problem with 3D games
« on: June 15, 2008, 12:44:31 pm »
Whenever I try to play anything that makes use of a 3D engine, the buttons tend to lag up.
For example when I play battlefield 2 I press the forward key, but after I let it go it still moves forward for some time before it stops. Also if I were to move forward, then sidewards, its like the movement commands would que up and lag behind.

The graphics does not lag, and movements with the mouse does not suffer from this at all. It is only the keyboard.

My graphics card drivers are up to date, and so are my keyboard drivers.
My gfx card is a Radeon 9600 series.

When's the last time you cleaned out your keyboard? Do you eat stuff near it? [I do]

Sounds like your keys are sticking a bit if you ask me.

Keyboard is a brand new high quality gaming keyboard from logitech. Believe me it has nothing to do with it. It was the same case before I purchased this new keyboard.

And like I said, Its only when I play 3D games. Not when typing, not when playing soldat, only when there is a 3D engine running. Even really old games from like 1994.

I know what he's talking about; it's not the keyboard.  I've had it happen with Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, Unreal Tournament 2004, and Trackmania Nations Forever.  I don't know the cause of it either.  Mouse movement is extremely smooth even with resolutions up to 1920x1200, and the key problem still exists when the resolution is down at the 320xwhatever level.

If it helps, my video card is an ATI MOBILITY FireGL V5000.

Doubt it. My previous keyboard was a PS/2 one, and it was the same story.

did you turn off hardware acceleration?

Haven't tried that. How do I change that setting?

edit: Tried it, but it didn't work. If I turn it too low, the games won't even launch, and when I turn it just low enough for them to start I still have the problem.

Are you using a PS2 to USB converter port/plug thing?

Also try checking your keyboard settings for repeat delay and repeat rate, make sure they are low.

I am not using a converter with this one. It's plugged straight into the USB port.

It's not the connection; my keyboard is a PART of my computer (it's a laptop) and I have a similar problem.

The keyboard and the fragmentation amount have nothing to do with it.  Otherwise, the same things would be experienced no matter what was being done on the computer.  No, the thing that Psycho is experiencing is that the game decides spontaneously that it wants to stop receiving input from the keyboard.  The game still runs smoothly, and the mouse still functions fine.  I don't know why it happens, but like I said, it's not a connection problem, since I've had this happen and my keyboard is built in to my computer.
