Anyone notice how hard it is to find a normal game?
« on: June 18, 2008, 07:12:46 am »
So I play Soldat on and off. I've played before the weapon mods and when finding a climb map server was rare. Did you notice that it's almost impossible to just find just a regular CTF server? Like... REALLY hard? It is for me, everytime I get on it's all "KNIFE ONLY" "SNIPERSZZ" "(WM)" "HEXERMOD" "CLIMB MAP" "DODGEBALL" "ZOMBIES"

It's irritating....

Yeah...
Some people have noticed it, and it's the main reason why I don't play pubs as much as gathers/privs/cws.

Since the fracs servers died, I suppose it must be a lot harder for you guys to play in public servers. Try out a gather CaptainHighpants.

Maybe because scripting makes game more interesting ? There is not really a need for "pure" ctf except for a few people in these forums which are not enough to fill up a 10 slots server I think :P Try it, make a CTF with no scripting, no WM no nothing and see how popular will be. People only play this in gathers.

Eh, no not really.. Maybe for some people. I haven't played a scripted server, or weapon mod, or anything else that's kept my attention very long. Over a long period of time it just gets to be mindless and brain numbing. Yeah, they're really cool and all but.. it's more like instant gratification to me. I feel like I get addicted to them for about 30 minutes, then I'm burnt out. That's probably whats going to happen to a lot of people who play these hexer mods and overly scripted servers and pointless weapon mods. I've been there, done that. Played them all for hours straight and just got burnt out.

It's nice going back to the basics every once and awhile.

Also, what's Gather mean?

Well, honestly, I prefer to play ordinary games than scripted or modded games. If it must be scripted, I only hope that there is NO weapon mods, unless that server is really good.

I don't find it hard at all. Just look at the map and the name of the server... :\

It's like 1 out of 10 servers who fits me.
It has to be:

- Good ping/No laggers
- No scripts
- Avarage player skills
- ca 6-12 players on
- good map

I know what you mean. I'm into the basic, simple gameplay of Soldat - that's the concept this game was built upon. The need to issue commands takes away from the experience along with crazy weapon mods or certain weapon-only servers. However, I must admit that there are a few exceptions since there are some great scripts + mods out there. And yes, a gather is a good place for CTF but then again, it's only 3v3 (at least for NA I believe), and people are way too good for average players like myself. Sometimes I'm not in the competitive mood that's needed for a gather.

I miss the days when most of the servers didn't have crappy mods, scripts, or subgame modes. I have only seen ONE standard ctf server I can get a nice ping on. I hate gathers because I don't want to piss around in irc until enough people join, but since every server owner seems to have their head up their ass I guess I will end up going back to irc.

Uh, fracs is still running. In fact, it's probably the ONLY decent public server out there right now. I think you mean U13.

As far as publics go, if I can't get into fracs, I try the AK server or #tba server. Both are german, but it's the next best thing, even though the AK server has like 3 guns disabled, a bunch of scripts, and admins who kick campers and people who use other common tactics.

That's because soldat is like the most customizable game evar.
Stop whining and play gathers just like everyone who wants to play default ctf does.

Geekier than you!

I just go to elite servers, or go to AK's pub server..... And that's literally it! Holy crap! :o

That's such a lame excuse, and a poor attempt at a cheap shot.

What's stopping me from saying that gather's servers are being wasted on that IRC engine, and that they should be open to the public for play? Why can't you come down to us, instead of us coming up to you?

Normal ctf has been started a few times (attempted, actually) in EliteCTF, but died because of the number of players that went there: zero.

I dunno about you but, it may be that people actually like playing in games with fewer choices of weapons.

(talkin' about the public servers, just so you know)

IRC is open for the public. the very definition of a gather is that the game/server itself isnt public.

I actually agree that there aren't enough pubs. If I want to play one I'll usually go to fracs CTF or something. Btw gathers are usually pretty fast to start in the afternoon.

Thinking about your name remidns me of your multi-mod server. I loved it.
