Dead Flagger Indication
« on: June 20, 2008, 06:28:02 am »
I dunno if this is a good idea, but:

You guys know how when, say, blue flag is captured, the indication words come up in red saying "Blue flag captured" then if red flagger makes it back and scores it will say "Alpha team scores!"  I was thinking, perhaps make one for when the flagger dies so that you get an idea of whether the EFC is dead or not, etc.
So say the red guy gets shot, then it will pop up some blue words going "Red flagger dead" or something along the lines of that.

My first suggestion =O

I remember seeing this suggestion in these forums some time back.

Someone said something about communication in the older thread. If the flagger dies, it is his responsibility to tell his teammates. Then for the chasers, it is their job to find the flagger, silence him, and then tell the team while he tries to return the flag.

If you're gonna add this function, I'd prefer it like this:

For example: (red carry flag, blue chase)

1. Red is killed by a blue player.
They will show that the EFC is killed by that particular blue player for blue team, while red team receives only a message of "EFC killed".
2. Red commits suicide
They will show that the EFC is killed ONLY to the red team, the same way as 1.
3. Red flagger loses the flag (maybe he throws it and it's somewhere, he's still alive)
A message will be shown to red team that the flag is no longer in possession.

This option can be disabled for players. This is just a way to help for communication, because typing or using macros (there's a slight pause) can take up a bit of time. But there are also very good teams who do not need this because they have some way to communicate without this function, and may prefer to rely on their teammate's messages instead.

I'm neutral for this suggestion, neither F11 nor F12.

For the game is not only that! It teaches you valuable things in live! Such as dodging knifes, Berets and weak old M79. Now those are help full!!

So, You're saying that anyone who doesn't register Soldat is a noob? I'm not registered and I'd probably own you 1 on 1, As well as a lot of other non-registered players.

On topic:
I like the idea, But it's also one of those things that's unnecessary, Since there are a couple of ways to watch where the flag carrier dies.

Besides, as I only just mentioned in my previous post in here, it's team work and communication in these situations. If the flagger dies he should make a report about it by himself, so people are notified faster at least. So it's not really important, but I'll support it if it is to be implemented.

I just hate it if your team doesn't report or know how to communicate due to any problems like language barrier or simply not knowing how to talk.

Using the kill console is pretty effective in small matches - but I can see how you lose track in the more hectic pubs.

One way you can figure it the flag is dropped is if you see that another member has captured it... :DDDDD

^^ I totally agree, however in gathers and stuff  minimap is disabled.

In pubs... who cares about pubs...
Just go in the direction of the flagger, and hope you reach him just as he dies :)

You can see if someone has got the flag on the edge of the screen.

@Topic: I don't really care anymore, I just pay attention to the missing flag indicator icons above the score in the corner.

Yeah the missing flag indication says missing flag regardless of whether the EFC is dead or not; just as long as the flag isn't in base and returned properly it's "missing".  And the kill console doesn't tell you whether the enemy flagger died, does it? Cause I'm talking about the situations where you don't actually know who the flagger is but you want to know if your team has been successful in killing him, which will determine your next course of action

Code: [Select]
procedure OnPlayerKill(Killer, Victim: byte;Weapon: string)
begin
  if GetPlayerStat(Victim,'flagger') = True then
    Command("/say " + IDToName(Victim) + " has died and lost the flag... pwned.");
end;
Lol I actually haven't tried this script out or anything, but it should work.

I don't think DrawText works on OnPlayerKill, sense its before the person actually dies, and the game draws the message foo killed bar, so if you want to use DrawText, you goda do it as soon as you can after OnPlayerKill (set a bool to true, and check it AppOnIdle, then DrawText there)

No.
You can script it (probably), or simply watch the kill log or the edges of the screen(if player name is yellow, then the player's got the flag).
