Help, with getting better.
« on: June 23, 2008, 12:49:18 pm »
This looked like the appropriate forum to post this.

If you've seen my clan topic, you know that I'm looking for someone to teach me the fundamentals, and techniques on using a barrett, in combination with any of the other four side arms. In essense, I'm looking for a teacher.

Even if you yourself aren't willing to teach me, maybe you could recommend a site or forum with people that are readily and willing to take on new "recruits".

Also, if this isn't the right forum to post this, go ahead and let me know via Private message, so I can message a Moderator to move it to the correct section, thanks.

I'd try gathers, a lot of skilled people hang around them. If you want to Barret in a gather though, you'll most likely be going alt route every time.

Gathers? Could you elaborate on that?

Lone-wolf has some practices you can do against bots.

For example go to teammatch, and put 2 impossible bots against you. Get 20 kills with no more than 5 deaths.

Exodus, don't post if you're not going to help him in getting better.

That exercise that Bond posted really helps.

I started noticing an improvement after an hour of play against the bots.
Also, keep posting please, every little bit helps, even if you don't think it does.

Well, it all comes down to practice.

Practice gives you:

- Experience
- Aiming ability
- Understanding of your weapon
- Understanding of the map you practiced in

Teachers are not necessary, but it would be good to find some good players around (gathers especially) who are willing to teach if you have some problems learning on your own.

Actually, personal preference is the best answer. And the mouse you use can play a  big factor.

Chrono:

Another route would be to play with each weapon individually and get to know the feel of each one. Learn on each weapon's strengths and weaknesses. Then once you have familarized yourself with each one, go out and try online. Use each weapon to your advantage and then you can start to get better and better.

But that's only if you want to do that. In the end, decide to do things however you want and things might just fall into place.

My only advice is to play as much as possible. I took 1-2 guns at a time, got fairly proficient, switched, found a favorite, used it until it got boring, switched. Also, play all the game types, don't just only use deathmatch or CTF. I learned the barret in Inf because of how you need to play, saw in deathmatch. Just try everything. Also, learn the backflip.

I've learned most of the weapons strengths and weaknesses, and I've decided on the barrett for it's sheer power. I've worked up a fairly decent aim, but my maneuvering is horrible. I've learned the backflip and other maneuvers, but basically, I can't dodge to save my life.

Mouse sensitivity: Barretters- 20-40

The only way this would work is if everyone in the world had the exact same mouse, each mouse has its own specific setting that can be different from yours so 20 - 40 for you probably in most cases wont be the same for everyone else. Also like 93 said just practice, maybe find a gun you like and use it until you are very good with it then try another gun and repeat.
And as the lyrics go in the United State's national anthem: "America, f**k YEAH!".

Depends on your mouse - I reckon 200% is not enough >< I am a deagler...
Anyway, try not to press any movement buttons when you shoot - it helps with your accuracy.  A trick is to get into the air, prone (harder to hit), let yourself drop without pressing any movement buttons and fire.  Works wonders for me... and I've seen others do it too.  Just makes it easier, I think.

That's because your mouse is some M$ crap.
The method you gave him is pointless, and you are really easy to kill even if you jet.

Learn some basic climbing techniques, for example minibackflip (hold jet and press W + A/D) is awesome for dodging barrets/rugers.
Latebackflip (hold W + A/D then press jet in midair) lets you to dodge most of the knifes/m79 bullets.
If you want to be a good barrettard I suggest you to use the bot-style.
Move arround doing basic jumps (W+A/D) but hold them down, so you can do latebackflip incase someone attacks you, you can dodge the bullet(s) in air.

Geekier than you!
